One of LARS’ members, Mared Phillips, has just had a cracking week. Last Monday she won the Under 19 Solo and came 2nd in Musical Theatre at the Urdd Eisteddfod.
However, the highlight came on Friday when she was interviewed on S4C and was awarded the Eisteddfod Scholarship. Completely unexpected — but we’re absolutely delighted for her. LLONGYFARCHIADAU MARED

30 heddiw, 30 today! Penblwydd hapus Sam — Samuel Wyn-Morris. Have a great day, Sam. Our very first member of Loud Applause Rising Stars (LARS) at 17 years old. Pictured here 12 years ago at the LARS Soirée at Stradey Castle, he is now living his dream as the Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera in Taiwan. He is one of Wales’ great ambassadors of song.
Sam will be returning to Wales to headline the Armed Forces Day Gala Concert at Pembrey Countryside Park on 27 June — another chance to raise a glass to him!

What a fantastic concert last night, hosted by Morriston RFC Male Choir at the Great Hall of Swansea University Bay Campus. This great venue created a very relaxed atmosphere, allowing special guests West End star Kerry Ellis and Liam J. Edwards to shine throughout the evening. We at LARS, are extremely proud of Liam, who has now established himself as a full‑time professional singer.
The choir was excellent, and D. Huw Rees had once again brought them to a very high standard. They were supported superbly by accompanist Sian Davies, Huw Tregelles Williams on the organ, and percussionist Gail James. Most of the choir’s pieces were conducted by Huw, with two conducted by Deputy Conductor Helen Wyn. The evening was compered by TV broadcaster Rhys Williams.
Congratulations to the hard‑working committee, Huw, and the Musical Team for their dedication in bringing together such a memorable concert. The evening ended with a well‑deserved standing ovation. As always, these occasions offer a lovely opportunity to catch up with friends. See less

Lauren Elizabeth Williams and James Oakley were soloists at the Dinas Powys Music Festival Concert https://dpmusfest.co.uk/ last night, sharing the stage with the wonderful Côr Meibion Pontarddulais Male Choir. The choir and soloists were accompanied by the renowned Jeff Howard. Reports say it was a fantastic concert — congratulations to everyone involved.
Loud Applause Rising Stars (LARS) is very proud of Lauren and James, both students at the RWCMD, who have become established young singers regularly heard in concerts across South Wales and beyond. They are pictured with LARS Vice Chair Susan Roberts. A massive thanks to the Dinas Powys Festival for once again providing a much needed opportunity for young singers. Thank you also to Jeff Howard for accompanying them — always a very safe pair of hands! See less

A fantastic run of success for Lauren Elizabeth Williams. As guest soloist with Treorchy Male Choir at a recent concert in Caerleon, she impressed both the choir and the audience so much that they gave her a standing ovation — the choir themselves were first to their feet after Lauren delivered a high‑quality and varied programme of eight songs. Last weekend she won the Musical Theatre solo Competition at the Pontrhydfendigaid Eisteddfod Eisteddfodau Pontrhydfendigaidand was also given the prize for the best solo performance of the evening Competitions - awarded the Moc Morgan Perpetual Cup. Today she gave an outstanding performance at the Janet Price Opera Prize Competition at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. We are all at LARS extremely proud of Lauren!
It was also great to meet up with all the LARS students at the Conservatoire — Lauren, James Oakley, Penelope George, Darcey Paris George and Georgia Barley. So very proud of them all!

Another proud moment for LARS! - Memories of a fantastic evening at Llanelly House for the Friends of LARS Soirée. It was a special thank you to those who support LARS as Patrons. Twelve of our LARS members performed brilliantly offering the capacity audience a wonderful cross‑section of music. They were accompanied expertly by D. Huw Rees and Ieuan Jones.
Our compere for the night was LARS Vice Chair, Susan Roberts. The LARS team worked hard behind the scenes to create another memorable evening, with special thanks to our Secretary, Eirwen Clarke, for her dedication.
A big thank you to George and Liz Parker for sponsoring the event and also to the staff at Llanelly House for making us feel so welcome - a wonderful venue! Our next LARS event will be open to the public at Machynys Golf Club on 20th June. More details will be available soon!

A Wonderful Evening with The Worshipful Livery Company of Wales
LARS (Loud Applause Rising Stars) were honoured to provide the music at a prestigious occasion for The Worshipful Livery Company of Wales last night at Cornerstone in Cardiff. The Worshipful Master, Henry Gilbert—a long‑standing friend and supporter of LARS—invited Jasper Hollett and Rhys Hunter to perform at the St David's Dinner and Awards Celebration Evening.
Rhys is already well‑known to the Company, having received an award in London where he performed alongside Alis Huws, former Official Royal Harpist.
Throughout his year in office, Henry has opened remarkable opportunities for our young LARS singers. One standout moment was his presentation of the Master’s Award 2025 to the LARS organisation at the Senedd—another unforgettable occasion.
A heartfelt thank you to Henry and to The Worshipful Livery Company of Wales for your continued support, encouragement, and belief in the next generation of Welsh vocal talent. Your commitment does make a difference.
