*English translation below*
Branwen , un o bedwar portread diweddar wedi’u hysbrydoli gan gymeriadau o’r Mabinogi. O fewn mytholeg Gymreig, mae anifeiliaid yn gysylltiedig yn agos â natur ac â’r byd ysbrydol, gyda adar yn aml yn gweithredu fel negeswyr rhwng bydoedd. Mae anifeiliaid gwyn yn ymddangos dro ar ôl tro mewn chwedlau Cymreig a Cheltaidd, yn symbolau o drawsnewid, doethineb ac arweiniad ysbrydol. Credir fod enw Branwen yn golygu “brân wen” neu “frân fendigaid”, a adlewyrchir yma drwy’r aderyn gwyn wrth ei hochr.
Er bod ei stori yn cynnwys colled a gwahanu, mae Branwen hefyd yn symbol o dosturi, gwytnwch a chryfder tawel. Yn y gwaith hwn, mae’r aderyn yn dod yn symbol o reddf, cof, a’r cysylltiad parhaol rhwng pobl, natur a stori.
Olew ar linen. Ar gael drwy Oriel Ffin y Parc yn fy arddangosfa sy’n agor ddydd Gwener yma. Mae’r holl weithiau hefyd ar gael ar-lein drwy wefan welshart.net

Branwen , one of four recent portraits inspired by characters from the Mabinogi tales. In Welsh mythology, animals are closely connected to nature and the spiritual world, with birds often acting as messengers between realms. White animals appear repeatedly within Welsh and Celtic folklore as symbols of transformation, wisdom and spiritual guidance. Branwen’s name is thought to mean “white crow” or “blessed raven”, reflected here through the pale bird beside her. Though her story contains themes of loss and separation, Branwen also emerges as a figure of compassion, resilience and quiet strength. In this painting, the bird becomes a symbol of intuition, memory and the enduring connection between humanity, nature and story.
Oil on Linen. Available through Ffin y Parc Gallery in my Exhibition which opens this Friday. All works also available online on the website welshart.net

Inspired by Pais Dinogad , one of the oldest surviving poems in the Welsh language, believed to date from the early medieval period and preserved within The Book of Aneirin. Written in Old Welsh, at a time when Brythonic language was spoken across much of Britain, the poem takes the form of a mother singing to her child about his father, the landscape around them, and the animals of the wild.
The title refers to the child’s speckled smock, stitched from marten skins. I recently had the honour of viewing the manuscript at the National Library of Wales.
In this work, the mother becomes the storyteller and keeper of memory, surrounded by symbolic animals drawn from the poem ,marten, deer, boar, fish, grouse, fox and wild cat , woven into a dreamlike landscape of mythology, motherhood and cultural inheritance, where story, identity and language are carried from one generation to the next.
This painting can be seen in my Major exhibition at Ffin y Parc Gallery which officially opens next Friday 16th May at 6pm.

Wedi’i ysbrydoli gan Pais Dinogad, un o’r cerddi hynaf sydd wedi goroesi yn yr iaith Gymraeg, y credir ei bod yn tarddu o’r cyfnod canoloesol cynnar ac wedi’i chadw yn Llyfr Aneirin. Wedi’i hysgrifennu mewn Hen Gymraeg, ar adeg pan oedd yr iaith Frythonaidd yn cael ei siarad ar draws llawer o Brydain, mae’r gerdd ar ffurf mam yn canu i’w phlentyn am ei dad, y dirwedd o’u cwmpas, ac anifeiliaid y gwyllt.
Mae’r teitl yn cyfeirio at smoc brith y plentyn, wedi’i wnïo o flew bele’r coed. Yn ddiweddar cefais yr anrhydedd o weld y llawysgrif yn Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru.
Yn y gwaith hwn, mae’r fam yn dod yn adroddwraig ac yn geidwad cof, wedi’i hamgylchynu gan anifeiliaid symbolaidd y gerdd , bele’r coed, carw, baedd gwyllt, pysgodyn, grugiar, llwynog a chath wyllt , wedi’u plethu i dirwedd freuddwydiol o fytholeg, mamolaeth ac etifeddiaeth ddiwylliannol, lle mae stori, hunaniaeth ac iaith yn cael eu trosglwyddo o un genhedlaeth i’r nesaf.
Gellir gweld y paentiad hwn yn fy arddangosfa yn Oriel Ffin y Parc, sy’n agor yn swyddogol ddydd
