Paul Eastwoods’ drawings in Unreadings convey the experience of reading from a dyslexic perspective. The series explores questions around the accessibility of text as a medium and how it functions as both image and language.

Looking back through our archives:
Radovan Kraguly: The Milky Way

From 20 October 2012 to 6 January 2013, we presented a survey exhibition of work by celebrated artist Radovan Kraguly. For nearly forty years, including a long period living in rural mid-Wales, Kraguly explored the estrangement of humanity from nature, often focusing on dairy farm animals to examine the loss of identity and the vital bond between people and the natural world.

Brought up on a small farm near Prijedor in the former Yugoslavia, now Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kraguly probed the control and dependence man has on the environment. By stylistically presenting themes of the dairy cow in abstract and conceptual terms, Kraguly’s paintings, sculptures and multi-media installations were characterised by elements of order and geometry, resembling the enclosed, fragmented boundaries surrounding us in the physical world.

The accompanying publication for this show includes essays by Alfredo Cramerotti, Ian Hunter, Aleksander Bassin, Radovan Kraguly & Fernando Garcia-Dory and is available at Siop Mostyn here: https://shop.mostyn.org/products/the-milky-way-works-1974-2012-radovan-kraguly-mostyn

Edrych yn ôl drwy ein harchifau:
Radovan Kraguly: The Milky Way

O 20 Hydref 2012 i 6 Ionawr 2013, cyflwynwyd arddangosfa arolwg o waith yr artist enwog Radovan Kraguly. Am bron i ddeugain mlynedd, gan gynnwys cyfnod hir yn byw yng nghefn gwlad canolbarth Cymru, archwiliodd Kraguly ymddieithriad dynoliaeth oddi wrth natur, gan ganolbwyntio'n aml ar anifeiliaid fferm laeth i archwilio colli hunaniaeth a'r cysylltiad hanfodol rhwng pobl a'r byd naturiol.

Wedi'i fagu ar fferm fach ger Prijedor yn yr hen Iwgoslafia, Bosnia-Herzegovina bellach, archwiliodd Kraguly y rheolaeth a'r ddibyniaeth sydd gan ddyn ar yr amgylchedd. Drwy gyflwyno themâu'r fuwch laeth yn arddull mewn termau haniaethol a chysyniadol, nodweddwyd paentiadau, cerfluniau a gosodiadau amlgyfrwng Kraguly gan elfennau o drefn a geometreg, yn debyg i'r ffiniau caeedig, darniog sy'n ein hamgylchynu yn y byd ffisegol.

Mae'r cyhoeddiad sy'n cyd-fynd â'r sioe hon yn cynnwys traethodau gan Alfredo Cramerotti, Ian Hunter, Aleksander Bassin, Radovan Kraguly a Fernando Garcia-Dory ac mae ar gael yn Siop Mostyn yma: https://shop.mostyn.org/products/the-milky-way-works-1974-2012-radovan-kraguly-mostyn

Final week to see Unreadings

Unreadings is "a celebration of the mistake". Drawing on his lived experience as a dyslexic and neurodiverse bilingual artist, Eastwood transforms miscommunication, misreading, misspelling, and mispronunciation into creative strategies. The exhibition brings together works on paper, sculpture, moving image, and sound to investigate how language constructs identity, memory, and belonging. Throughout the show, Eastwood asks the visitor to slow down and reflect on how we consume written language.

Wythnos olaf i weld Dad-ddarlleniadau

Mae Dad-ddarlleniadau yn "ddathliad o'r camgymeriad". Gan dynnu ar ei brofiad bywyd fel artist dwyieithog dyslecsig a niwroamrywiol, mae Eastwood yn trawsnewid camgyfathrebu, camddarllen, camsillafu a chamynganu yn strategaethau creadigol. Mae'r arddangosfa'n dwyn ynghyd weithiau ar bapur, cerflunwaith, delwedd symudol a sain i ymchwilio i sut mae iaith yn llunio hunaniaeth, cof a pherthyn. Drwy gydol y sioe, mae Eastwood yn gofyn i'r ymwelydd arafu a myfyrio ar sut rydym yn defnyddio iaith ysgrifenedig.

From 26 October to 30 November 2002, we presented a series of works by Rachel Lowe. The work was infused with an awareness of the profound desire to capture particular moments in time, the impossibility of ever adequately doing so, and the resultant sense of loss.

Still images and filmed sequences were carefully manipulated to offer a haunting, disorientating awareness of the endless present, at once cut off from the completed past and the becoming future.

The exhibition included works made specially for this exhibition, and five versions of her noted piece 'A Letter to an Unknown Person' (2002), shown simultaneously and a large scale projection of 'South of the 31st Parallel' (1999).
____

O 26 Hydref i 30 Tachwedd 2002, cyflwynwyd cyfres o weithiau gan Rachel Lowe. Roedd y gwaith wedi'i drwytho ag ymwybyddiaeth o'r awydd dwfn i ddal eiliadau penodol mewn amser, yr amhosibilrwydd o wneud hynny'n ddigonol byth, a'r ymdeimlad o golled a ddeilliodd o hynny.

Cafodd delweddau llonydd a dilyniannau ffilm eu trin yn ofalus i gynnig ymwybyddiaeth atgofus, ddryslyd o'r presennol diddiwedd, sydd ar unwaith wedi'i dorri i ffwrdd o'r gorffennol cyflawn a'r dyfodol sy'n dod i'r amlwg.

Roedd yr arddangosfa'n cynnwys gweithiau a wnaed yn arbennig ar gyfer yr arddangosfa hon, a phum fersiwn o'i darn nodedig 'A Letter to an Unknown Person' (2002), a ddangoswyd ar yr un pryd a thafluniad ar raddfa fawr o 'South of the 31st Parallel' (1999).

Featured in Ffocws #8:
Emily Hughes

"Growing up near a quarry, I have long been drawn to its stark landscape and layered industrial past, which continue to inform my work. This series of collograph prints has allowed me to develop a closer connection to the site, translating its textures and atmosphere through print."

Through processes such as tearing, layering and manipulation, Emily Hughes builds collograph printing plates that echo the physicality of the quarry itself. An emphasis on texture and mark making is integral to the artist's work, reflecting both the erosion of the landscape and its enduring presence.

Ffowcs #8 is now on show in Oriel Cafe. Learn more about the featured artists here: https://mostyn.org/event/ffocws-8/

Dan Sylw yn Ffocws #8:
Emily Hughes

"Gan dyfu i fyny ger chwarel, rwyf wedi bod yn cael fy nenu ers amser maith at ei thirwedd llwm a'i gorffennol diwydiannol haenog, sy'n parhau i lywio fy ngwaith. Mae'r gyfres hon o brintiau colograff wedi caniatáu i mi ddatblygu cysylltiad agosach â'r safle, gan gyfieithu ei weadau a'i awyrgylch trwy brint."

Trwy brosesau fel rhwygo, haenu a thrin, mae Emily Hughes yn adeiladu platiau printio colograff sy'n adleisio corfforoldeb y chwarel ei hun. Mae pwyslais ar wead a gwneud marciau yn rhan annatod o waith yr artist, gan adlewyrchu erydiad y dirwedd a'i phresenoldeb parhaol.

Mae Ffowcs #8 bellach i'w weld yn Caffi Oriel. Dysgwch fwy am yr artistiaid dan sylw yma: https://mostyn.org/event/ffocws-8/
