If you have followed this story, we campaigned for Welsh Student funding for specialised courses to be reinstated, alongside , Fiery Jack , NoFit State . We had help and support from Plaid Cymru Beca Brown - Gwynedd Maldwyn Siân Gwenllian - Gwynedd Maldwyn Kiera Marshall BBC Cymru Wales S4C News. Former and future Welsh Circus students Ciaran Innes Tom Green Rowen K Trystan Chambers indica.circus Magical Morgan and many more performers and trainers Peter Duncan and Ethan Darren Kith and circus’s like Peregrine Circus joined the cause. The Senedd Committee and Culture Committee listened and Vikki Howells pushed through special temporary designation which meant that our 3 students would get funding so they could study at Circomedia Bristol this year. But unbelievably they would each be short of £3000 just because of the designation status by MEDR. To change this is sadly out of our control and financial ability, so MEDR tells us.
Although the Welsh Government is working with MEDR and Student Finance Wales and Circomedia so that this shouldn’t happen again, our students had to accept the £3000 shortfall that English students don’t have.
Circomedia has been amazing and over the last few months have worked hard behind the scenes to find bursaries to make up the shortfall for Welsh Students, not just for this year but for the duration of their course. All 3 of our students have applied and been successful. We can’t express the relief and gratitude and just how much this means to us and for the future of Welsh Students studying Contemporary Circus and Physical Theatre at Circomedia.
