Today’s rain put a spanner in the works for our shoot, but we adapted! A huge thanks to Tamara’s granny-mar and par for letting us borrow their front room. We managed to get another scene captured with a very micro crew. Tamara directed whilst also holding the boom, Kaia monitored sound, Dan worked the camera, Jamie smashed his performance and Harry felt sick after downing multiple glasses of some grim non-alcoholic wine.

"My poetry draws on the theme of women's ever-changing, fluid connection to nature and metamorphosis, and my own personal relationship to the land and sea."

Poet Stef Parr will be performing her powerful and poignant poetry at this evening's Speakeasy! Stef has been a member of the Helston Library Writers' Circle since day dot, and captivates the room with her witty, wonderful, wizardry of words.

Please do come on down and enjoy an evening of brilliant storytelling, poetry and performance at Trevow Helston from 6 pm (Friday 29th May). Run by The Writers' Block and Trevow Helston, this event is one of many taking place for 'Storylab' across Helston!

All of the writers and actors shared to our page have been supported by Helston Library Writers' Circle, a free workshop hosted by our Creative director Tamara Rosenwyn and supported by LAFTA through wider community engagement.

"I start to speak my truth, my monologue, but barely a minute in, they all begin to encroach me
as I sit in their circle their eyes glaze over, they start to chant…
‘KILL YOUR DARLINGS.
KILL YOUR DARLINGS.
KILL YOUR DARLINGS.’
The paper I'm reading from is snatched from my hands and torn to shreds…"

Writer Joel Griffiths will be performing his monologue about how much he didn't want to perform a monologue tonight at Trevow Helston. Reimagining a writing circle turned cult (or is he?!) this meta-comedy is funny and surreal.

Joel joined Helston Library Writers' Circle group recently and we are delighted to have him in our club... But will he ever be able to leave...?

Image edited by Joel, "of course it's not based on truth, they're all a lovely bunch," he said through gritted teeth. 😂

Tonight's Storylab Speakeasy is run by The Writers' Block and Trevow Helston as part of their week long celebration of storytelling around Helston.

"Talking of gulls, I bet Agnes in the next room is really pleased you can’t get out of bed anymore. Throwing discarded food and butt-ends to the gulls on the flat-roof outside her window. What did she do to annoy you? Say hello or something?"

Hugely talented writer Sarah Tresidder's monologue 'Duw Genes' will be performed by Meechell Trewin at Trevow Helston's Speakeasy this Friday.

This 5 minute extract of a larger piece explores childhood memory, love and maternal violence. Meechell said, of the script, "it puts me straight into her story, paints such a descriptive picture and is very emotional. I love the fact that there's lots said in the pauses. It's someone on their dying bed having their lifetime paraphrased; a lifetime stripped back to the skeleton of neat power and emotion. I think it's amazing. I want to do her proud."

This event is part of Storylab, run by The Writers' Block and Trevow Helston. For one week (23rd -30th May), Helston has wonderful workshops, trails and all sorts of creative events!

All of the writers shared to our page have been supported by Helston Library Writers' Circle, a free workshop hosted by our Creative director Tamara Rosenwyn and supported by LAFTA through wider community engagement.

'I've seen many a man go flying through those western-style doors, hitting the pavement with a right old wallop! Out for the count!'

"I have re-visited my time as a teenager living in the early 70s in East London. Or as I spell it... Lundun! Come join me, as I take a walk down memory lane... you'll be surprised!"

'A Packet of Major's And A Bit Of A Girl' is based on writer Irene Water's upbringing in East London pubs. This funny, beautiful and poignant piece of writing is brimming with character and cockney slang.

She'll be performing a 5 minute extract at Trevow Helson's Speakeasy on Friday 29th May. The event is part of 'Storylab' a week-long celebration of writing run by The Writers' Block and Trevow Helston.
