Calibre’s contributions to UK music over the last 30 years have been significant to say the least. Whilst best known as a father figure of liquid drum and bass, his music spans tempos and genres.
Ahead of his much anticipated return to Liverpool this Saturday (ticket link in bio) this is but a small selection of Calibre productions that have stood out for us over the years…
Even If
A truly stunning track with haunting, near-spoken vocals layered over a bed of legato and staccato strings, a proper emotional banger.
Leave
Heavy yet subtle, with warping and pulsating bass-lines running underneath crispy hi-hats, a gorgeous balance of melancholic melodic elements and hard-hitting bass.
Lungs (Remix)
Elevating an already stunning vocal track, Calibre brings his signature emotive DnB touch…
United Pull
An epic of an ambient track from his newly released Tricklemore Sea, a slow builder of pads and atmospheric recordings with his distinctive haunting vocal samples to boot. Spine-tingling stuff.
Mr Majestic
An undisputed classic for good reason 👌
Run Run Run (Remix)
A remix of the already gorgeous Goldie track, leaning into organic samples in a drum and bass style, a beautiful melding of organic textures into a deservedly iconic track.
Lit
Leaning into his jazz and soul influences, Lit is an understated track of off-kilter swung drums and a smooth descending piano line that melds together effortlessly.
Fire & Water
A banger of a track, with its instantly recognisable bass-line, over minimal, but punchy jungle breaks, gets the crowd moving every time.
Mr Maverick
A track resting on a DnB repurposing of the ‘Think’ jungle break. The hard-hitting, distorted bass of this cult classic paired with a gorgeous and emotive synth breakdown in the second half, makes it a proper musical journey.
Run Away
A collaboration with the legendary Instralex , this track effortlessly blends their respective styles, one for the ages.
Don’t Wonder
A true off-kilter heater, an aggressively swung drums over a haunting brass line, chills!
Tenopause
A dubstep release on Mala’s iconic Deep Medi label, a track showcasing Calibre’s talismanic profile across genres.
