In 1994, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society launched a Community Education Project as part of its commitment to the social and artistic development of inner city communities. Originally under the direction of American Choral Director Cheryl Saunders, the choir quickly grew in popularity. Renowned Gospel musician Tyndale Thomas MBE was then appointed as Musical Director and the choir continue
d to expand its membership, growing in strength and reputation. Past performances have included concerts at The Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, the Hope Street Festival, Slavery Remembrance Day at the Anglican Cathedral, the opening Ceremony to celebrate Liverpool’s Capital of Culture 2008, as well as supporting Nina Simone and Ladysmith Black Mambazo. The LHGC is an independent choir with a solid reputation, strong membership and a commitment to gospel music.
