We’re out and about in Liverpool again this weekend, bringing the Katumba energy to two very special events celebrating community, connection and the power of coming together.

SATURDAY 29 AUGUST: MARCH TO END HBA + CULTURE IS BEAUTIFUL

On Saturday, we’re proud to be joining Savera UK’s March to End Honour-Based Abuse, standing in solidarity with survivors and calling for a future free from honour-based abuse.

We’ll be kicking things off at 11:45am, before leading the march from 12pm alongside The Dancing Queens and Felix. Then it’s onwards to the Bombed Out Church for Savera UK’s free Culture is Beautiful festival, where we’ll be performing again at 1:50pm.

SUNDAY 30 AUGUST: LIV’S FEST

On Sunday, we’re honoured to play at Liv’s Fest, the annual celebration organised by Cheryl Korbel and Olivia’s Butterfly Foundation in loving memory of Olivia Pratt-Korbel.

It’s a day that brings family, friends and the wider Liverpool community together to celebrate Olivia’s vibrant spirit, with live music, fairground rides and plenty of pink.

Catch Katumba performing at 12pm and 1:30pm.

There are some gigs that feel like more than just a gig. This weekend we have two of them. 💛

Katumba has always been about people. Community. Belonging. Creating spaces where everyone is welcome, where our differences are celebrated, and where we stand together against racism, division and injustice.

The rhythms we play are rooted in Afro-Brazilian traditions and the African diaspora in Brazil, where drumming, movement and carnival have long been expressions of identity, community, resistance and joy.
So when Katumba shows up with our drums, movement and collective energy, we honour that history while carrying its spirit of connection, resistance and joy into the communities we’re part of here.

With so much hurt and hostility circulating at the moment, it feels especially important to keep showing up for those values - loudly, joyfully and together.

And this weekend, we get to do exactly that...

SATURDAY 22 AUGUST: WONDER IN THE STREET, ST HELENS

Find us at Church Square as part of a brilliant FREE day of outdoor entertainment, bringing communities together in St Helens.

This event was originally planned as part of Refugee Week in June, celebrating welcome, sanctuary and the contribution refugees make to our communities - values we’re incredibly proud to stand behind.

SUNDAY 23 AUGUST: LIVERPOOL TOGETHER FESTIVAL

We’re proud to be joining Love Music Hate Racism Merseyside and the Merseyside Together Alliance for Liverpool Together Festival, bringing musicians, trade unionists, anti-racist organisations and community campaigns together for a day of music, culture, solidarity and community action.

🥁 Katumba performing at 3.20pm
📍 Liverpool African Caribbean Centre

If you’re around this weekend, come and stand, dance and make some noise with us. Everyone is welcome. 💛🩷💙

REMINDER: Our final Rhythm Experience before the Beginner Programme!

Been watching Katumba perform this summer and thought, “I’d LOVE to have a go at that…”?

Well friends, this is your chance.

We’re opening the doors to Kasa Katumba for one last Rhythm Experience before our Autumn Beginner Programme begins on 22nd September.

We actually sold out… but we’ve managed to add a FEW MORE SPACES!

A small number of Final Release tickets are now available, plus one Supporter ticket and a limited number of Community Access tickets. 💛

As part of our commitment to making Katumba more inclusive and representative of the communities around us, these lower-cost tickets are there to help reduce barriers for people on a low income and/or from underrepresented communities.

The suggested price is £8, but if that’s still a barrier, you’re welcome to pay what you can. No proof of eligibility required.

Come and spend your Wednesday evening playing drums, moving, grooving and making some serious noise with us.

No experience needed. Just come ready to give it a go!

And if you’re thinking about joining the band this September, this is the perfect chance to experience Katumba for yourself before Beginner Programme bookings open.

Don’t leave it too late. Grab your ticket now using the link in bio.

Liverpool! What a day. 💛🏳️‍🌈

Pride and Carnival have more in common than many people realise. Both were born from resistance, both celebrate identity, and both remind us that joy can be a powerful act.

Thank you to everyone who danced, cheered, drummed and celebrated with us at Liverpool Pride.

If watching and moving with us made you think, “”I’d love to have a go,”” we’d love to meet you.

🥁 Try playing the Katumba rhythms and moves yourself. Our FINAL Rhythm Experience Open Day at Kasa Katumba is coming on Wednesday 26th August. Booking opens next week - keep your eyes peeled 👀
🥁 After that, we’ll be running our Beginner Programme for anyone hoping to JOIN THE BAND. This experience will be coming in September.

🇧🇷 Or take the adventure even further and join us in Brazil. Every year our co-founder helps lead a very special cultural journey back to her home, giving you the chance to experience Carnival first-hand and discover so much more of Brazil’s incredible culture. Register your interest using the link in our bio.

💻 Hire us for a workshop for your workplace! From high-energy drumming to mindful reset sessions, we’ll help your team reconnect, re-energise, and move forward together. At your workplace, or our venue in Liverpool.

Wonder Hub does brilliant work helping parents discover fun, evidence-based ways to support children's learning and development through play, so we're delighted to be part of an event that's all about creativity, imagination and community.

If you've got little ones, come along between 10am–1pm for stories, activities and plenty of rhythm.

What a weekend. ❤️💛💚

We had the best time performing at Africa Oyé, sharing music, movement and carnival energy with so many people.

Not to mention collaborating with the incredible Dancing Queens

This performance always feels especially meaningful to us. It’s a chance to celebrate and honour the cultures, histories and communities that have shaped so much of the music, movement and traditions that inspire our work at Katumba.

For Katumba co-founder , this connection runs deep. As an immigrant from Pernambuco in Northeast Brazil, and as someone whose own heritage has been influenced by the African diaspora, is a powerful reminder of the roots behind many of the rhythms, instruments and traditions we hold close.

We believe appreciation goes beyond simply enjoying a tradition. It means learning, listening, showing respect, and recognising the people, histories and resilience behind the art forms we love.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, danced with us and celebrated with us on Sunday. ✨

Our incredible Katumba Bloco band can be hired to preform at festivals, entertainment venues, carnivals and corporate events. Email us at: [email protected]
