Sharing my journey and my participation in Refugee Week with Care4Calais

''This painting reflects my journey from Iraq, depicted on the eastern side through domes, ancient doors, and date palms, symbols of a land where some of the world’s oldest civilisations began.

I come from Iraq, carrying with me the depth of its history, the richness of its culture, and the strength of my personal experiences. I bring these to share with you here, on the other side of the world, in Liverpool, a place where I’ve found freedom, support, and a sense of belonging.

Like many refugees who come to the West, we seek safety, acceptance, and the opportunity to contribute. We arrive not just to find refuge, but to help build communities that are inclusive, supportive, and enriched by our shared humanity.

Art has helped me process the pain of displacement and rediscover the joy of expression. It’s how I tell my story - and how I honour the stories of others like me.

I’m so happy to share that my painting "Violet" will be part of the Spring Show at Art Journey in Leeds, running from May 3rd to 5th, with a private view on May 2nd – and you’re warmly invited! 💜🎨

Art has always been a form of therapy for me, so this exhibition feels especially meaningful. Art Journey is doing amazing work supporting art therapy for children, and I’m proud to be contributing to a show that aligns so closely with my own experience and values.
