Andy McGlinchey

Part of the curating team, Andy works with the themes of addiction, which consequently leads to memory loss. These themes are usually taboo to work with, however he explores these subjects with abstract paintings and, contrastingly, realistic portraiture.

He works with inks with different colours of dyes, and also the mediums of different gradients of pencil. His portrait work can be described as soft and almost intimate glimpses into people's personas and life.

Andy's more abstract work seems to have relations to East Asian paintings and paper marbling techniques.

Joanne Battersby

Joanne's work is about mental health- in particular depression. Her work symbolises the feeling of when you feel like lying down wanting to give up, but you manage to get back on your feet to plough through another day- all whilst still carrying the weight of mental illness on your shoulders.

Her chosen installation piece consists of the remains of a single spring mattress that had been cast out to the elements of: earth, wind, rain and fire. The chair is part of the installation piece, mainly because of the bruised and battered physical elements of it which have aesthetic relations to the motions of how depression makes you feel.

She has places yellow roses as a symbol of remembrance, hence the shape of the roses in a crucifix, as a contrast to the rusted springs of the mattress. On the day of installation (May 3rd), Joanne will place fresh roses onto the piece. This is to show the process of deterioration and death in real-time when the roses will be wilting inside out.

Danielle Miller - Project Manager.

Danielle's artwork is about the struggle she has to produce work that she doesn't deem beautiful, she believes that beauty, aesthetics and taste are all important assets within an artwork. She creates works that have influences for popular culture and trends, commenting on the idea that art does not have to always be conceptual to be appreciated by the public, or the artist themselves.

Her work is produced using print, she looks at textures and colour to create abstract works. She then works into them with mixed media's to add more detail and interest.

Lacy Hague

Lacy explores concepts of identity using technology as a form of image making. Throughout the process of using a scanner she allows the viewer to create their own narrative of her visual portraits, as she likes the idea of how they interact with the image to try to find the hidden aesthetic and meaning.

Her work is a mixture of acetate prints mounted on wood, scanned portrait images which are then manipulated on Photoshop, and 3D printed of busts of people.

Hannah Gilpin

A member of the curating team, Hannah Gilpin's work expresses how 'Nothing is as it first initially looks, there's always something deeper, another layer, another colour; that's how nature appears to me, and is my thought process when creating artworks.'

Her work is a build up of chaotic brush strokes that represent the disarray nature causes. The complimentary colours portray a juxtaposition, as they are harmonious. Although, seemingly, a cluttered and careless piece of work, it represents the order of the natural phenomena.

Her art is created using a printing technique, nature is, here, presented as being easily duplicated producing an ironic subject matter, as we know nature to be unrestricted and free.

Louise Stewart

Head of the Curating team, Louise explores the dream world and people's subconsciousness. Her paintings relate to the movement of the brain during the dream-state. Her work is a representation of how when we're dreaming, we constantly are in this confusion of trying to comprehend not only it's meaning- but what is real, what is fake, and what are our true desires are.

She works in the main medium of acrylic, where she likes to add different textures by incorporating glue and ink. This creates a signature dripping texture and a thicker consistency. These mediums are usually mounted on wooden board.
