Artist Profile, Josie Jenkins, Josie Jenkins ... Josie has been with Arena Studios for over 15 years and is a talented and accomplished artist. She is pictured here working on an architectural painting which will be part of an exhibition at The Williamson Gallery in 2027 ( joint with Ula Fung ). Josie completed a BA (hons) in Fine Art (Painting) in 2002 and has since exhibited extensively in the UK and internationally, winning the Valeria Sykes Award during 2013 at the New Light exhibition and this led to a residency in Xiamen, China. Josie enjoys producing/curating exhibitions and also runs Liverpool Artists' Network Liverpool Artists' Network with which is a comprehensive resource to help and support artists. Arena member Josie Jenkins is currently showing at Stephen Keane in a group painting exhibition called Object Subject which she curated.

Photos include Arena alumni Anna Ketskemety who is also exhibiting.

Object Subject continues until 6th September and can be visited during Lea Bridge Library’s opening hours.

Josie will also be there for a Meet the Curator weekend on:
Saturday 5 September, 10am–5pm
Sunday 6 September, 11am–3pm

Curated by exhibiting artist Josie Jenkins, Object Subject is a group painting exhibition of works in which objects are either clearly present or ambiguously implied. Moving away from conventional still-life expectations, the exhibition considers how meaning emerges through the placement, treatment and interpretation of objects within painting.

Introducing Ruth Piper who has been in Arena Studios since 2005. Ruth likes bright colours and is often inspired by retro screenprints of the 1920's and 1930's. She has travelled extensively around the world and always travels with a sketchbook to collect those special memories. Ruth has exhibited her art locally and afar, most recently in the Royal Liver Buildings at the Liverpool Art Fair.

Not all palette’s are the same! In fact most palettes are distinctive due to the nature an artist works!

🎨 This modern palette (aka Tupperware lid) is perfect for accommodating lots of paint as finds artist Jilly Jilly Owens .
We love how Jilly finds use for these old takeaway lids and it shows the bold colours that can also be found in some of the wonderful paintings she creates.

A Painter’s Palette

The palette behind the art!

🎨 This magnificent palette belongs to studio member Louise Louise . Over the years it seems to have grown little lives of its own created by the ever growing towers of oil paint. This rainbow of colour is added to each time the artist paints and Louise has mentioned how some wobble meaning they are likely still fluid inside in some areas. We love how this palette is as vibrant and characterful as the richly coloured paintings of people, landscapes and aquatic paintings we often see adorn Louise’s studio.
