Back in 2024, Junyan Chen () won the Leeds International Piano Competition chamber music prize - and it’s not hard to see why. Last night, Junyan was joined by Thelma, Nadia and Alexander from the Orchestra for a performance packed with the most thrilling and exhilarating music by Brahms, Fauré and Frank Bridge.

Missed out on tickets? Don’t worry, we can’t wait to welcome to her back to the Phil next year for even more. Catch her performance of Rhapsody in Blue on Thursday 11 February 2027.

Today, Stephan Mayer celebrates an incredible 25 years with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra!

Throughout his incredible tenure, Stephan has had many special moments, including a tour to Japan, playing at the Proms to capacity crowds, and working with some of the world’s best-known artists. Most special of all, he met his new fiancée, Fiona, a member of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Choir. Please join us in wishing Stephan a huge congratulations 🎉

Here's what Stephan had to say on his milestone:

"As I reflect on my 25 years in the RLPO, I can’t help but shake my head in disbelief - where has the time gone? And how do I still enjoy my job so much, possibly more now than I did back then?

The answer is actually quite a simple one: I’m so lucky to be a member of the fabulous first violin section in our wonderful Orchestra. I know from my own personal experience that the Philharmonic family is there for me when I need it the most!

I also have to pay my gratitude to our audiences for attending all these concerts and events, supporting us in so many ways and being part of this family. We couldn’t do our jobs without you!" 🎻

Frank Dupree made a dazzling debut with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra last week. He performed Gershwin's Piano Concerto in F, received a standing ovation, and most certainly sealed Liverpool's desire for a swift return visit!

Thank you to Bachtrack for our five-star review for this celebratory concert under the baton of Chief Conductor Domingo Hindoyan, featuring Adolphus Hailstork's An American Port of Call (1984), Copland's triumphant Third Symphony and Duke Ellington's Caravan.
