From September we'll be introducing a series of In Conversation events called My Singles Life, based around the single releases that mean most to the participants, and we're delighted that David `Yorkie' Palmer has agreed to launch the series for us.
He'll be appearing in our Star Cafe on Sunday September 20th, and we'll be listening to his chosen selections and chatting about why they are the important records for him.
As one of the leading lights in the Liverpool music scene since 1978, Yorkie has seen many trends come and go. He gave the embryonic Teardrop Explodes and
Echo & The Bunnymen their first rehearsal space, worked for Zoo Records, formed both The Dance Party & Egypt For Now with Michael Head (The Pale Fountains, Shack) and later The Balcony, whose debut single, 'Surprise After Surprise'/'The Lizard Hunt', was produced by Psych-rock guru Mayo Thompson.
He recorded sessions for the legendary John Peel, as well as many others and later went on to play bass, produce and arrange for Liverpool Indie giants SPACE (Neighbourhood, Female Of The Species, Avenging Angels).
He has produced an eclectic collection of bands and artists: from Heidrun Anna, Jubjub, Seven Seals, Ivan Campo, Other Voices to Liverpool legends SHACK's magnificent '...The Corner of Miles & Gil' which was released to critical
acclaim on Noel Gallagher's label Sour Mash Records) and also tracks for SHACK's
retrospective 'Time Machine'. He has recently produced the debut album by
Liverpool psychedelic pop group MOON, for which he also plays bass.
However, his main musical project since 1999 has been MOONGOOSE. A purely instrumental band, heavy on atmosphere and cinematic dynamics. They have released a number of eclectic albums, EP's and singles over the years to great critical acclaim and are due to release their fifth album, 'Auto-Magic Cinema Gun', at the end of 2026.
Further details will be announced on our website.
