Currently on display in Gender Stories, Catherine Opie’s The Gang is part of her deeply personal Girlfriends series, intimate black and white portraits of friends, lovers and chosen family ❣️

Created spontaneously in 1991, the photograph playfully explores identity, performance and community, capturing members of the Daddy/Boy le***an subculture posing in the style of youth gangs. Through her work, Catherine Opie documented LGBTQ+ communities often overlooked by wider society, creating powerful images that celebrated visibility, memory and belonging during the AIDS crisis.

We are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of David Hockney.

His iconic painting Peter Getting Out of Nick's Pool won the John Moores Painting Prize in 1967 and was acquired by Sir John Moores, who later donated the work to Walker Art Gallery.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all those who admired his work.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of David Hockney.

His classic work, 'Peter Getting Out of Nick's Pool', won the 1967 John Moores Painting Prize, and was acquired by Sir John Moores himself, who donated it to Walker Art Gallery shortly after.

David's work captured the imagination of millions of visitors over the decades, and continues to inspire young artists today. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

James Charles was a British Impressionist artist 🌸✨ Spring Blossom at Ambersham captures a sunlit orchard of cherry trees in full bloom. A young girl carrying a basket stands quietly in the landscape, while smoke rises from a fire in the distance. The blossoms are rendered in quick, expressive brushstrokes typical of Impressionism, bringing movement and light to the scene.
