JUST UNDER THREE WEEKS TO GO! THE TEAM ARE WORKING REALLY HARD IN REHERSALS. NEWS ABOUT THE PLAY AND TICKET LINK BELOW.

Push Button Theatre are proud to present their first production of the contemporary, gritty drama Bloods Thicker at The Casa Theatre on Thursday 23rd June 2020 at 7.30pm.
Written by Liz Redwood and directed by Zara Marie Brown.

Blood’s Thicker explores the aftermath of a senseless act of violence. A tragic story of love, loss and a struggle to salvage some hope from a desperate situation that has destroyed a family.
The play tells the story of Rene, an ordinary woman whose life is torn apart by incidents that are out of her control. Planning for a romantic evening out with her husband John, the night turns into a nightmarish series of events after her daughter Charlene is inadvertently involved in a knife crime.
Rene goes against all of what believes to be right and wrong to protect her daughter. She cascades into an ever-deepening web of lies and deceit, wracked by the guilt of lying to John’s daughter Sian about the events of the night.
But despite all of Rene’s efforts to protect Charlene, is the coercive control of Zac, Charlene’s boyfriend a force that she will never be able to reckon with?
The shorter version of this play was a runner up in the Kenneth Branagh International New Drama Award at the Windsor Fringe Festival in 2020.

Liz Redwood has been writing for three years, previously to this she completed a Certificate in Screenwriting at Liverpool John Moores University in 2006. After undertaking short playwriting courses in 2019 she was accepted onto the Liverpool Royal Court’s Playwrights programme in 2020 and is currently studying on the Liverpool Everyman Playwrights Development Programme. She was shortlisted in the Kenneth Branagh New Drama Award at the Winsor Fringe Festival in 2020, and the Sphinx Theatre’s Female Playwrights Programme also in 2020.
In March this year an excerpt of her full-length play S*x Machine was performed at a ‘Stage Write’ night at the Liverpool Royal Court Studio and in April this year her short play Twisted Sister was performed at Hope St Theatre in a showcase of new writing.

Zara Marie Brown is a Liverpool based theatre director, producer and all round theatre maker. She has been fortunate enough to work with inspiring companies such as Hope Street Limited, Daniel Taylor productions, Liverpool Irish Festival, Likeminded Productions, Boss New Plays, Grin Theatre, Page to Stage to name a few. Working on massive immersive street theatre, to traditional Shakespeare to teaching drama to Syrian refugees. She prides herself to giving 100% to every project she is involved in. She had also set up her own theatre companies to hire local actors to create innovative original theatre that she and Joseph Mitchley have created together. Her most recent productions include “Dr Barry” by Carol MacGinn as part of the Liverpool Irish festival. And as part of the Liverpool Lantern
Writers. She directed “There’s a man on the Mountain” and “Banter”. Zara’s comment on Push Button’s first production. “This play isn’t just about knife crime, it’s about the break down of a family after an act of fatal violence, emotional abuse in a manipulative relationship, and the inadvertent accomplice, exploring whether she is just as guilty, or another victim in this devastating event. This cast of local talented performers has been an absolute joy to work with I’m looking forward to bringing this production to stage.” Actor Deborah Elizabeth also commented “This play is an eye-opening insight into child criminal exploitation and the impact it has on families and the wider community.”

The cast is made up of the following actors, Emma Hill (Dr Barry, Liverpool Irish Festival) Deborah Elizabeth (One Sided Love, Likeminded Productions) Dale Cook (Punk Rock) John Purcell (Banter, Royal Court Studio), Leo Hewitson (Bow and Arrow, City Theatre) and Zara Marie Brown is performing on stage for the first time in 8 years!
