****EXTREMELY QUICK TURNAROUND. The filming will take place Thursday 6th, Friday 7th and Saturday 8th March IN LIVERPOOL ****

CASTING: "Running Riot: The Last Supper," a series of short films inspired by real events and case studies, exploring how community conflicts and societal tensions impact daily life. Through the lens of a violent mob attack on a couple having a meal out, the film examines themes of hate, identity, and the consequences of division. This short film shows the ripple effects of divisive narratives encouraging dialogue and reflection on coexistence and understanding.

Private screenings will be held across Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland as part of our Nationwide Uniting Communities campaign. The Running Riot project also provides cast and crew with hands-on technical production training through our Futures in Film CIC initiative, supporting skill development and fostering pathways into the film and television industry.

The production plans to hold private screenings of the short film in various locations across Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. This will complete the Nationwide Uniting Communities campaign.

Omar -
A calm and steady man, Omar finds himself in a life-threatening situation when a violent mob targets him and his wife, Aisha, because of their identity. As the chaos escalates, he focuses on protecting Aisha and leading their attempt to escape.

Aisha -
Omar’s wife, Aisha, finds herself caught in fear as a mob descends upon them. Initially vulnerable and shaken, she relies on Omar for strength while gradually summoning her courage to survive the event. She showcases vulnerability turning into determination, highlighting the emotional toll of fuelled violence.

Restaurant Manager -
A quick-thinking man, committed to his role, the manager intervenes to protect Omar and Aisha when rioters approach the restaurant. Risking his safety, he ushers the couple to an exit while maintaining calm amidst chaos.

Luie -

Here I am banging on about showreels AGAIN.

When I started it was like a smack in the chops how important they were. Directors literally telling me they wouldn't even consider a suggestion without one. I quote 'If I can't see instantly what they look and sound like I move on. I simply don't have time'

The first port of call was to offer my personal suggestions. What a position to be in! Wonderful. Not so wonderful when I was suggesting people I knew who were S**T HOT but their showreels were non existent, out of date or out of context. (Only having a dance showreel when you are subbing for a straight play) The director simply would not take it a single step further. Fact: Out of thirty suggestions he would only see seven. Absolutely due to the showreel sitch. No word of a fabrication.

So, if you're a performer and you don't have a showreel I cannot reiterate enough the disservice you are doing to yourself.

Please get in touch. Showreels. Headshots. Either. Both. Be up to date. Get in the room. Today.

Good morning!

***Urgent Casting tip ***

1. YOU NEED ONE!

The amount of submissions without showreels is, well, a LOT. In most, if not all situations, it will immediately discount you from receiving an audition. Selection is all about time. Time. Time. Time. And there simply isn't enough. So that first sifting process is 'With/Without Showreel' It really is that simple. I remember desperately trying to get a director to see a person who had submitted, but they didn't have a showreel and I didn't have a leg to stand on. I knew they were amazing but had no way of proving it.

2. IT NEEDS TO BE UP TO DATE!

There is zero point in having 20 year old footage on your showreel that no longer resembles you. Your showreel is not to show all the brilliant programmes you were on - that is on your Spotlight link or CV. Your showreel is immediate access to what you look and sound like so directors can assess if you are suitable for what they have in mind. You might actually also CHANGE their mind. But you have to put who you ARE in mind. It really is a waste of time doing anything else.

3. IT NEEDS TO BE SPECIFIC!

Please don't put your singing / acting / movement on one reel. Make them specific to the job you are applying for. That's it.

4. IT IS ABOUT YOU. NOT THE FANCY EDITING SKILLS OF YOUR SHOWREEL COMPANY / MATE FROM WORK.

The sheer AMOUNT of showreels with intro shots of rolling hills, sunrises or movement up a table leg is astounding. ASTOUNDING. Stop it. It needs to start with you. End with you. Have a middle you. Boom. Stop forking out to show off someone else's editing. It's boring and transparent. It's about YOU. YOU. YOU.

There are soooo many more I can say but for now this will do.

Can I help? YES!

In 2018 showreel company The Reel Thing was set up. This was four years before Gillian Hardie Casting and its three core values have not changed. They had to be:

1. Affordable
2. Accessible
3. Professional.

And they still are. The only thing that's become more glaringly obvious is ALL OF THE ABOVE!! To not have one is just not an option anymore.

Please get in touch with me on [email protected] and let's start chatting Showreels.

****NW BASED ACTOR CALLOUT ****

Looking for 3 actors to play the roles of Maggie, Callum & Ruby in
BUCKLED by Helen Jeffery

Ruby doesn’t think she has a problem
Maggie’s almost six months into recovery
Then there’s Callum…..
Family, friendship and booze
Drinking to remember
And drinking to forget
How do you navigate sobriety in a world that revolves around drink?

Character Breakdown:

Maggie (50)
Mum of Callum and six months into recovery following an ultimatum from her son which forces her to confront her dependency on alcohol. Maggie is on a journey to discover who she is without a drink in her hand and it’s a real challenge for her. In order to move forward she needs to both confront the past and forgive herself for mistakes made in order to rebuild her relationship with her son.

Callum (30)
Only son of Maggie, Callum is a secondary school teacher and engaged to Ceri. Having grown up in the shadow of his Mother’s drinking, Callum has his own demons to deal with and needs to unlock the anger that’s been building up within him since childhood. Brought up surrounded by women, Callum relied on his Nan when his mother was unable to parent him.

Ruby (29)
School friend of Callum and struggling actress waiting for a break. She works a job she hates, lives in a flat she can’t afford and is fast approaching 30 with little to show for it. Ruby claims not to like Callum’s Fiancee Ceri but (secretly) is jealous of her. Ruby is grieving the death of her Dad 2 years earlier which she hasn’t given herself time to process fully. She doesn’t show her feelings, but numbs them through booze, s*x and partying.

FROM THE COMPANY:
We welcome and encourage applications from artists with lived experience of the subject matter, as well as actors who are currently underrepresented in the theatre industry.

Performances:
Atkinson Theatre, Southport - 20th March
