RIP James Gadson

Gadson was a key member of the famed Motown backing band The Funk Brothers during the label’s later Detroit-to-LA period, and he remained a highly sought-after studio and touring drummer for decades. Known for his feel over flash, his grooves have been widely sampled in hip-hop and continue to influence modern drummers.
