Conversing through sound effects is the best way to work, trust me.

*AUTOMATION FOR VOCALS*

Automation is a very important part for any mix I do, even if it's as simple as taking out quiet parts of the track.

Don't assume a compressor or deesser will know exactly what you're expecting to hear, other wise you'll often end up pushing it too far and it will sound flat as a witch's tit.

On this vocal track I've listened out for "breathy" artifacts and brought them forwards and any harsh sibilant sounds I've ducked, all through automation.

It's always good to automate your Reverb and other sends as again, vocals are meant to have some level dynamics so you'll want some things brought forward, and something's sat back!

Try it out, see if it helps

We've all been there.

Don't trust your ears! They're deceptive and very good at fixing problems for you. Here's how to combat it.

1.TAKE REGULAR BREAKS.

2.MAKE NOTES UPON YOUR FIRST LISTEN.

3.SEEK OTHER'S OPINION(especially when starting out)

4.YES IT IS TOO BASSY AND YES IT HAS TOO MUCH TOP END.

5.DON'T OBSESS.

***You can only trim the fat!... and maybe butter it up. ***

when mixing a song, I always find I get better results when I'm having to take things away rather than trying to add things on which may not be there or match what I had in mind.

I always tend to high pass and low pass areas the certain instrument I'm mixing doesn't belong to, meaning If I'm mixing vocals I'll sweep the low frequencies and high pass at the point I'm happy with. Vocals have no business in those areas.... Unless you're some sort of giant gurgle monster...

Generally I like to do my cutting and notching with a parametric eq like the infinity eq and and boosting with a colour adding type eq like the rule tec eq

Do you agree with what I'm saying? Let me know your thoughts.

I'm fine. This is fine.
