Black Dragon Morris

Black Dragon Morris We are Black Dragon Morris, a mixed cotswold side named from the legendary Dragon that roamed St Leonard’s Forest on the outskirts of Horsham.

A mixed gender morris 'side', we were formed in the latter part of 2010 and became members of the 'Open Morris'. Since January 2012 we have become members of The Morris Federation. We set ourselves up to mainly concentrate on the dances that originated from the villages set deep in the Cotswolds. The majority of the villages, with their distinctive dance styles are centred in or around Oxfordshir

e. As with many folklore activities the exact replication becomes very subjective. However, with the written documentation available our main goal is to interpret those traditions the best way we can, whilst offering entertainment that is enjoyable to both audience and dancer alike.

The Broadwood Day of Dance will be held THIS SATURDAY in Horsham, with the Broadwood Men and friends filling the centre of the town with colour, music and dance. 🕺🎵🏵

The day starts at 10.30am with a procession from the end of West Street to the Carfax bandstand, and then from 11am to 2pm there will be dancing throughout the town. With around 20 sides taking part there should be something for everyone to enjoy.

From 2pm onwards it’s all back to the bandstand for a show dance from each Morris side and a bit of a barn dance where you can join in. Then around 4pm the day comes to an end with farewell dance that everyone can join in with.
