Who is coming to the lantern parade tonight? Don’t worry about a bit of rain, just get you wellies on and head to Hare Hill Park just before 7pm.
Our event tells a little story, each year we build the story up about the climate emergency and this year we feature Enid the Owl.
Enid Stacey was a woman who lived in Littleborough in the late 1800s. She cared about rights of people in communities like Littleborough and, especially about the right to vote and to be part of democracy.
To help people find out more about democracy and rights, she joined a group of people who ran a newspaper called The Clarion. They used to get the word out into remote communities using a caravan pulled by a horse.
In our lantern parade this year we want to celebrate Enid and, because she was a wise woman who called out for democracy, we represent her as an owl. We will also have a clarion van that you can look out for.
The children have been working hard all week making their lantern owls and they will become a Parliament of Owls. They have taken part in democracy by writing on the wings their message to our local government about their wishes for the planet and all the things that live on it.
There will be movement, music and songs which will help us to tell the story about Enid and Democracy.
