Introducing Mibitaka, born on March 12th, the latest addition to our white collared lemur family. We know some our regular visitors have been watching her progress as she grows both in size and confidence. This adorable baby is now spending more time exploring her environment and getting up to all sorts of mischief! She earned her name Mibitaka, the Malagasy word for Bounce or leap for joy, as she is often non-stop bouncing around from branch to branch, sometimes using her very patient dad as a springboard!😂. The white-collared lemur is IUCN ranked as “Critically endangered” with a high risk of extinction in the wild! This species have one of the most restricted ranges of all lemurs. From Madagascar, they are isolated to a small strip of habitat of which only about 270 square miles remains! In 1997, a cyclone reduced the population near the coast by about 50%.Linton is globally respected for the success gained with breeding this amazing species and is currently the only place outside of the wild where a captive breeding programme is successful providing a safety net for the future.
