What a Triumvirate of Judges !
We’re welcoming Lincoln’s finest spoken word wonders to compete in our September Slam so needed three magical magistrates to match. And boy, have we found them. Nottingham’s finest slam veteran - poet, rapper and workshop facilitator Chris Oliver! Lincoln legend, Guild Sessions favourite and reigning ‘Cawte in the Act’ Champion, Ross McGivern! And SpeakEasy Royalty and sister of Linklings founder, the late great Steve… Nic Cawte! But we wouldn’t want to trade places with them for the complete works of Shakespeare - make no mistake… picking a winner on Friday is going to be tough! Hopefully we can get some judges to show us how it’s done!
Your September Slammers will compete in 3 strict 3 minute rounds wowing you with a single poem each - though only around half of their number each time will progress to the next round. Sounds heavy! But don’t forget that in reality objective judgements of subjective art is slightly preposterous - and Slammin’ is all about the craic. And indeed, SpeakEasy this week is going to be cracking!
There’s Open Mic too this Friday - we’ll get the first 8 performers through that door at 7 pm… into 5 minute slots and as many extras as we can manage. We’ll have a jar at the bar and celebrate our community and our words. If you’re not up to reading, come join us and marvel at the marvellous!
