Join us for a celebratory drink and a piece of birthday cake this Saturday as we mark 25 years of Common Ground Theatre Company!

Members past and present, friends and supporters of Common Ground are invited to the Queen in the West pub in Lincoln, where it all started back in 2001.

Tickets are now on sale for our production of Under Milk Wood, a play for voices by Dylan Thomas.

This magical play will be performed at the Broadbent Theatre in Wickenby from 22nd to 24th October 2026.

Our production is set on the night of 28th July 1965, the 100th anniversary of Welsh settlers arriving in Patagonia on the clipper Mimosa.

It will be a celebratory performance of Dylan Thomas’s iconic comic story of a close Welsh community performed as a live radio play, broadcast from the BBC’s Maida Vale studio, complete with microphones and Foley artists using 1960s radio techniques.

The play will feature an ensemble of 11 actors and original live music and songs composed and performed by Hannah Borrill.

Our third and final play reading of the summer will be An Ideal Husband by Oscar Wilde.

We will be getting together for a sociable read-through of this play at 7.30pm on Wednesday 5th August in the upstairs meeting room at the Victoria pub in Lincoln.

The play revolves around blackmail and political corruption and touches on the themes of public and private honour. It's a large cast, so the more of you there are at the reading the better!

Everyone is welcome, regardless of background or experience. You can read in with us, or if you prefer you can just sit and listen. This is not an audition - it's just for fun!

We will be electing a new committee, looking back at recent productions, discussing future performances and planning our 25th birthday party!

Yes, England are playing on Wednesday, but with any luck the game should be finished by 7pm, leaving plenty of time for you to come to our second play reading of the summer!

We'll be reading Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead at the Victoria pub in Lincoln from 7.30pm on Wednesday 1st July 2026.

This is just for fun - not an audition! Grab a cooling drink at the bar and head upstairs if you'd like to read in or just listen.

We had a lovely evening in Liquorice Park, Lincoln last night reading scenes from A Midsummer Night's Dream, which we will be staging in the park in July 2027.

Next up, and still on a Shakespearean theme, is Tom Stoppard's play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.

We will be meeting at the Victoria pub behind Lincoln Castle at 7.30pm on Wednesday 1st July to read this play inspired by two minor characters in Hamlet.

Everyone is welcome, regardless of background or experience. You can read in with us, or if you prefer you can just sit and listen.

This is not an audition - it's just for fun!

Everyone at Common Ground was deeply sorry to hear of the passing of Ray Longmore earlier this month.

Ray was an Honorary Life Member of Common Ground and a tireless supporter of our company since we were first created in 2001.

Our first productions were staged at Croft Street Community Centre (St Swithin’s) in Lincoln, where Ray worked for many years as caretaker. Without his support and interest, given the lack of other suitable venues in Lincoln at that time, we might never have got off the ground at all.

We’ve staged 43 productions over the past 25 years and we believe that Ray saw them all, except the last one – he was sadly unable to attend The Birthday Party in April 2026.

The Quakers, where Ray attended every Sunday, have offered to host a memorial meeting for worship at the Quaker Meeting House in Lincoln in July or August.

The first of three summer play readings, this is NOT an audition but a friendly get-together and an opportunity to familiarise ourselves with the play and visualise how it will look when we perform A Midsummer Night's Dream in Liquorice Park next summer!
