With just three days to go before our performance at Nottingham Playhouse, we were thrilled to be joined by Isabel Garcia Araujo. A professional Opera singer who has sung in Houses across Europe, Isabel took the members of LYT through vocal techniques and exercises to prepare them for the exciting challenge of performing on the Main Stage. Tickets for our performance at 6 pm on Monday 13th of April are available directly from the Playhouse.

With our usual home, Southside Lincoln, at full capacity with events this week, we are grateful to Steve Gillard for arranging for us to use the beautiful space at The Blue Room. The support for local groups across the city is something to celebrate!

Huge thanks to Sarah at Nottingham Playhouse for arranging for Sophie Jane Corner to work with the cast of Wildfire Road last week! Movement Director Sophie used her fabulous physical theatre skills to inspire our students and help them develop their ideas, ahead of the performance at the Playhouse on Monday April 13th at 6.00 pm. Tickets are on sale now.

If you can’t make it to Nottingham, you are welcome to attend Open Rehearsals at Southside Lincoln on Monday 30th and Tuesday 31st March at 7.30 pm, admission £3.00.

It was fantastic to see LYT so well represented at the Lincoln Music and Drama Festival at Southside Lincoln on Thursday and we were thrilled when Jamie, Xander and Arthur gained 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in the Shakespeare Class for assured and exciting interpretations of monologues and soliloquies from Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet and Henry 1V part two. The standard across the board was incredibly high - thank you to all the young and talented actors who took part in such a great evening’s theatre.

The adjudicator commented that “The standard of the performances in the Shakespeare speech category of the festival were exceptionally high. Entrants had not only honed their performances to create characters with layered emotions and motivations; they had chosen original and striking ways of bringing the speeches to life, giving the audience nuanced, insightful performances. A real treat for Shakespeare lovers.”

Thanks to Blake for the great photos - and a huge thanks to all Southside for bringing back the Festival for 2026 - we thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait for next year!

The members of LYT had the opportunity to explore some of the techniques and principles behind the work of renowned Cornwall based theatre company Kneehigh at this week’s session, working to bring puppets to life for our production of Wildfire Road. The puppets were created by Drama Tutor Stevie, inspired by the students’ own designs. Our young actors spent time exploring texture, shape and movement - a playful approach which was central to Kneehigh and which we hope our audiences will enjoy as much as we did!

We have open rehearsals on the 30th and 31st March at Southside Lincoln at 7.30 pm, with admission for £3.00. Our performance at Nottingham Playhouse will be at 6.00 pm on April 13th - do come and support us! Tickets are available via the Nottingham Playhouse website.

One of the greatest joys, and greatest challenges of staging Eve Leigh’s brilliant play Wildfire Road for the National Theatre Connections Festival, is exploring ways to convey the more abstract moments. Luckily, the members of LYT were willing to give up Sunday afternoon to focus on this - we are so fortunate to work with such creative people!
Tickets on sale soon for our Home performances at Southside Lincoln on March 30th and 31st, and for the Partner Theatre performance at The Neville Studio, Nottingham Playhouse on April 13th.

No two sessions with LYT are ever the same! This week, we began by exploring a section from Wildfire Road which invites the actors to devise their own script - with often hilarious results!

Then, Group leader (and wildlife expert) Stevie gave each member of the group a questionnaire which he used to “diagnose” their animal equivalent. Stevie and Company Manager Daisy revealed the results and there was considerable anticipation as our cast waited to find out if they were a Red Fox, a Racoon, or even a Sparrowhawk…!

If you want to find out how all this relates to our production for the National Theatre Connections Festival, come to one of our performances at Southside Lincoln on the 30th/31st March, or at Nottingham Playhouse on the 13th April. Ticket details coming soon!

All those taking part in the National Theatre Connections Festival have had the chance to take part in Zoom sessions with the playwrights whose scripts we are thrilled to be staging. Members of LYT were able to listen to a fascinating interview with Eve Leigh and could then ask questions about her play, Wildfire Road. It was a really informative and productive session, and lovely to see some of the other groups who are taking part! Thanks to all at Connections for setting up the meeting!
