Our spotlight for this week is Barbara Walker’s (b. 1964) Self Portrait. Included in our recent rehang, this oil painting was acquired as part of the artist's residency at our gallery in 2000.

Walker is a Birmingham based British artist whose work is informed by social, political, and cultural influences from her own life as well as those around her.

‘Self Portrait’ is on display as part of our permanent collection here at the Usher Gallery, open Thursday to Monday, 10am – 4pm.

Have you spotted Lincoln Cathedral, Exchequer Gate and Castle Square, by William Logsdail (1859–1944) in our back gallery?

This large oil painting gives us a glimpse into early 1900’s Lincoln Cathedral quarter, with Logsdail finishing the painting in 1904. Logsdail often painted the Cathedral, it being present in many of his paintings.

Our upcoming exhibition, Matt D Wright’s Papestry features the Cathedral quarter and Exchequer Gate, proving that the Cathedral still serves as a popular subject of art even to this day!

This painting is part of our permanent collection here at the Usher Gallery, open Thursday to Monday, 10am – 4pm.

It's been a good few weeks for workshops here at the Usher Gallery!

Last week, our Usher Young Creatives were busy working on some Lino prints for the Karl Woods project. Taking inspiration from his journals, the group selected some themes and created their own lino prints in response.

On Monday, the gallery saw another successful printing workshop. Participants used specific ink and gelli plates to create unique prints.
