Hello from John's wife and kids,

It is with heavy hearts and huge regret that we have to write this post. Unfortunately, John passed away in hospital on the 6th December. It was very sudden and unexpected.

It is not lost on us that John was a large part of this community and valued everyone who interacted with him and his work, it meant the world to him. And we cannot thank you enough in supporting him over the last few years as he created is art.

We understand that there are some commissions still pending, we will be in touch with you to discuss next steps.

We are still adjusting to the situation and we'll update you as to the future of John's art. For now however, we would welcome any celebration of John and his work.

Thank you for your continued support and love for John.

As the year comes to a close I thought I'd review my work of 2025 on each of the remaining Thursdays. This takes me back to the first drawing of the year, Distant Shores'. This was my very first Seascape and I enjoyed not only drawing the clouds and ships, but capturing the depth, reflections and shadows in the water.

Congratulations to all the artists who participated in this year's Explorers Against Extinction Exhibition and Auction, and of course to Sara & Rob who made it all happen. I recieved this little update today. All artworks are being shipped to their new owners over the next few days, so thank you if you managed to buy a bargain. An amazing amount of just under £48,000 was raised, and will be distributed to all the nominated projects across the globe. Loved being part of this year's Sketch for Survival, which itself accounts for £36,635 of the overall total. 👏👏👏❤️

Welcome to the latest 100 followers of my Art page, John Hanley Art. I'd like to celebrate reaching 6700 followers by sharing the top four posts in November, and thanking you all for your continued participation, through your engagement on my art journey.

As you can see recieving my Finalist certificate for the SAA Artists of the Year with 'Joy & Regret', had a great reception.

Also my portrait of Baby Matthew was awarded Artistic Recognition in this year's Art and Color 365 Portraits competition.

I attended the opening night of the Exhibition at the OXO Gallery, London. The event was a huge success, not only for the artists but for the organisation, Explorers Against Extinction, where much needed funds for wildlife conservation initiatives across the world was raised through the auctioning of the artworks.
I was so happy my little Macaque monkey, 'Watching, Waiting', sold.

Again, thank you very much for your engagement, and for those that have allowed me to capture your family members and family pets in a forever piece of graphite art, thank you from the bottom of my heart. 😀❤️

Hope you're having a wonderful weekend of Christmas decorating. There's now less than two days left of the UK Wild Otter Trust Christmas Charity Auction. My contribution, a pencil drawing, 'Star Gazer' has already received 7 bids and the price now stands at £90.00. The auction itself has already raised nearly £2000. The link to the auction site is in the comments and it's so worth a look to see the amazing works up for grabs. PLEASE NOTE THAT ITEMS CAN ONLY BE POSTED TO UK ADDRESSES.

Over the moon this morning. I received an email from Art and Color 365 magazine informing me one of my submissions to the 2025 Wildlife / Animals art competition has been shortlisted. Unfortunately I won't know which one until the winners are announced in their Early Winter issue, hopefully in December. I think the response to this question is going to be quite divided, Which one would you like to see in the exhibition, Watching, Waiting, Joy & Regret, or Pucker Up?

As the year comes to a close I'm reviewing my work of 2025 on each of the remaining Thursdays. This Thursday takes me back to July when I completed this beautiful Lioness for the Wild Welfare charity auction, organised by the Association of Animal Artists. I called this piece 'Night Guardian'.

For this I managed to complete the second Giraffe of my four Giraffe commission. I love drawing these beautiful majestic creatures, and can't wait to make a start on the one in the top right corner tomorrow 🦒🦒😀❤️

This morning, I recieved a wonderful letter of congratulations from The SAA and my Runner Up certificate for being shortlisted as a finalist in this year's SAA Artist's of the Year competition. Thank you all for supporting me and my submission, 'Joy & Regret' throughout the selection process and for all your votes during the People's Choice Award. Congratulations to the PCA winner, Diane Griffiths Art. 👏❤️

So happy my little Macaque monkey sold at the Sketch for Survival Exhibition and Auction at the OXO Gallery, London, yesterday. All proceeds from the auction will go to Explorers Against Extinction wildlife conservation initiatives around the world. I can't wait to hear what the grand total for the night will be.
