Lichfield Operatic Society We are an award winning musical theatre society based in Lichfield. On 9th November 1943 the Society joined NODA.

The present Lichfield Operatic Society began in 1942, although as long ago as 1896 a Lichfield Amateur Operatic Society, with a very successful record of productions, existed until 1912 when the loss of a suitable venue brought it to an untimely end. The first production of the present Society was ‘Merrie England’ in 1943, since when we have performed 98 shows up to December 2003. All productions

since Autumn 2003 have been performed at the LichfieldGarrick, which opened in July 2003 after two years of building work. Complete with recently refurbished raked seating, this proved to be an excellent alternative venue. We welcome new members to either perform on stage (singing, dancing and acting) or help backstage during a production.

📅 LEGALLY BLONDE – LAUNCH NIGHT ANNOUNCED! 📅

We may only be a few weeks away from our upcoming production of The Sound of Music but we are super excited to share the launch plans for our next show… Legally Blonde👩‍⚖️🎀💖

We’ll be kicking things off on Monday 9th November @ 7.30pm, Martin Heath Hall. Come along to meet the production team, get a taste of the show and find out everything you need to know about being part of this high-energy, feel good musical. 🎭 ✨

As always, we are keen to welcome new members! So if you’re interested in joining us on stage for this fabulously fierce show, please come along to launch night or drop us a message via Facebook, Instagram or email [email protected] with any questions. ✉️

✨ MEET THE CAST… INTRODUCING THE NUNS ✨

⛪️🙏 What better way to spend a Sunday than meeting the Nuns of Nonnberg Abbey? From words of wisdom to moments of mischief, these much-loved characters are at the very heart of The Sound of Music, bringing beautiful harmonies, warmth and plenty of personality to the story. 🎶

Sister Sophia, Sister Margaretta and Sister Bertha are played by Lucy Averis, Heather Bustin and Rebecca Bowley. 🌟

🎭 Lucy joined LOS last year for our production of Rock of Ages, while Heather and Rebecca are both longstanding society members. Heather first performed with LOS at just 10 years old in our production of Brigadoon, while Rebecca joined the company in 2009 for West End Story. 👏

🎶 Whether they’re debating Maria’s future at the Abbey, sharing pearls of wisdom or delivering some of the show’s most breathtaking vocal moments, these three nuns bring energy, humour and heart in equal measure. Their rich harmonies and unforgettable characters help create some of the most magical moments in the show. ❤️

✨ MEET THE CAST… INTRODUCING LEO FOËTU-FOSTER AS ROLF GRUBER ✨

🎶🚲 Every great story needs a first love... and Rolf certainly makes an impression!

💌 Charming, confident and full of youthful energy, Rolf Gruber plays an important role in The Sound of Music. While his famous duet with Liesl is one of the show’s most memorable moments, there’s much more to Rolf’s story than meets the eye. 👀

🌟 Leo is a newcomer to LOS, and we’re delighted to be welcoming him to the company. He’s been singing for as long as he can remember and is no stranger to the stage, having performed with theatre groups across Staffordshire and recently joined SCMTC starring as Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar. 👏🎭

🎙️ Leo shares: “I’ve always loved productions by LOS, so I was delighted to join the company. Rolf has been a really interesting character to explore and has challenged me in ways I wasn’t expecting. It’s such a nostalgic story for so many people, and it’s been a fantastic cast to be part of.”

🎶 Favourite song: “The Sound of Music. It’s nostalgic, uplifting and just an absolute belter!”

✨ MEET THE CAST… INTRODUCING KATE PILLING AS ELSA SCHRÄDER & HEIN HEMKE AS MAX DETWEILER ✨

Every great story needs a little glamour and a lot of personality… and this dynamic duo is packed with both! 🤩

🎩💎 Baroness Elsa Schraeder and Max Detweiler are two of The Sound of Music’s most memorable characters. Sophisticated, ambitious and always at the heart of the action, they bring charm, wit and plenty of humour to the von Trapp story.

🌟 Kate first performed with LOS in our 2017 production of South Pacific, taking on the leading role of Nellie Forbush. Most recently, she starred as Annie in our 2025 NODA Award-winning production of Calendar Girls. 🌻 After training at LIPA, Kate made her West End debut in Notre Dame de Paris and now performs regularly with other local groups alongside LOS, including SCMTC and The Highbury Players. 🎭

🌟 This will mark Hein’s third appearance with LOS after joining us back in 2025 for our production of Calendar Girls and then appearing in our 130th Anniversary Concert. Hein is also a member of SCMTC and Vocalzone Studio, where he most recently starred as King Herod in their 2025 production of Jesus Christ Superstar. 👑

✨ MEET THE CAST… INTRODUCING DAWN WELCH AS MOTHER ABBESS ✨

Exchanging dance shoes for a nun’s habit, we’re delighted to introduce Dawn Welch who will be taking on the wise and inspiring role of Mother Abbess 😇

Dawn first performed with LOS back in 1981 and has gone on to play a host of memorable roles with us, including Chris (Calendar Girls), Reno Sweeney (Anything Goes) and Mrs Anna (The King and I). A graduate of Laine Theatre Arts, Dawn also trained at the London Contemporary School of Dance before spending ten years performing aboard Cunard Cruise Liners. With a wealth of experience on stage, we’re thrilled to have her bringing this iconic role to life. 🎭

🎙️ Dawn shares: “Playing Mother Abbess is a complete change for me. Having spent much of my life as a dancer and showgirl, I wanted to challenge myself with something different, and I’ve absolutely fallen in love with her character. Behind her wisdom and sternness is a huge heart, and I think she sees a little of herself in Maria.

The Sound of Music was my nan’s favourite musical, so I’d like to think she’ll be there beside me, singing along and sharing this special experience with me.” ❤️

🎶 Favourite song: “Something Good has always resonated with me and never fails to make me emotional. I can’t really explain why, it just touches something in me.” 🎵
