๐Ÿ”๏ธ A little act of encouragement on Great Shunner Fell โค๏ธ

After climbing Great Shunner Fell a few times myself, I know how it can feel when you're grinding your way up the final stretch.

With the Summer Spine Race passing through, I wanted to leave something behind that might give people a little boost when they need it most.

So I painted this rock, put all 4kg of it in my backpack, and carried it up the fell โ€” with plenty of moral support from my husband and our dog along the way. ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ

"Run when you can. Walk if you have to. Crawl if you must. Just never give up."

Hopefully it catches the eye of a tired runner, walker, or adventurer and reminds them to keep going. Sometimes a few words at the right moment can make all the difference.

.. a young girl visited my pebble stall in the Yorkshire Dales with her grandma. I remembered her from a previous visit, and it was such a pleasure to see her again.

She has the kindest manners, the sweetest smile, and such a beautiful soul. The sort of child who leaves you smiling long after they've gone.

Today they chose this pebble for her brother. As we chatted, they told me the news about David Hockney, which I hadn't heard. It felt especially fitting, as this pebble features his famous yellow Crocs and one of my favourite Hockney quotes:

"If loving comfort is wrong, I don't want to be right."

The pebble now has a new home, and I couldn't be happier about where it's gone.
And if by any chance her grandma sees this, please wish her a very happy birthday for Wednesday from the pebble lady! ๐ŸŽ‚๐ŸŽ‰

David Hockney died on 11 June 2026, at the age of 88, and the news was announced on 12 June. He reportedly passed away peacefully at home in London, just a few weeks before his 89th birthday on 9 July.

๐ŸŽจ David Hockney was born in Bradford, Yorkshire, in 1937 and remained fiercely proud of his Yorkshire roots all his life.

๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ He was one of Britain's most famous artists and helped make pop art famous in the 1960s.

๐ŸŒณ After years in California, he returned to paint the Yorkshire landscape, creating huge colourful works inspired by the Wolds and Dales.

๐Ÿ“ฑ Hockney embraced technology and created hundreds of artworks on an iPhone and iPad, calling them simply "new brushes."

๐Ÿ‘“ His round glasses became almost as iconic as his artwork.

๐Ÿ’› He loved bright colours and wasn't afraid to dress boldly โ€“ including his famous yellow Crocs.

๐Ÿ‘‘ King Charles was so taken with Hockney's yellow Crocs at Buckingham Palace that he reportedly complimented them personally.

๐Ÿšฌ Hockney was known for doing things his own way and once said, "The world is very, very beautiful if you look at it."

๐ŸŒผ He believed joy was important in art and filled his paintings with colour, light and optimism.

๐Ÿ… He was offered a knighthood but turned it down, preferring to remain simply David Hockney.

Blue Tit Picked Me as Its Perch

Today, during a long hike through the forest, a tiny fledgling blue tit decided I was part of the landscape. ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿ’š

I spotted this recently fledged youngster calling from a tree. As I was taking photos, it suddenly flew over and landed right on my arm (and then my backpack!).

Young blue t**s leave the nest before they're expert flyers. For several days, they're still fed by their parents, make constant begging calls, and often choose random "safe" perches while learning to navigate the world.

So despite looking abandoned, this little bird was probably just going through its awkward teenage phaseโ€”and for a few minutes, I became its favorite perch.

After another beautifully soggy Yorkshire day yesterday, this little squirrel is ready and sitting proudly waiting for a forever home.

And honestly, there's something magical about Hardraw in the rain โ€“ the wet stone walls, vibrant greens, sparkling flowers, and misty views make the village look like it's stepped straight out of a storybook.

The good news? Unlike some of us, my hand-painted pebbles don't mind the weather one bit! ๐Ÿ˜„

I used to be a full-time Crocs hater ๐Ÿ˜‚
Every time my husband Tim Bogen said,โ€œ๐‰๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฒ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ฆ,โ€ I was like: ๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐˜€๐—ผ๐—น๐˜‚๐˜๐—ฒ๐—น๐˜† ๐—ป๐—ผ๐˜. Those shoes are ugly and nobody can convince me otherwise.

Then one dayโ€ฆ I tried Crocs with comfy socks.

And now?
I understand everything.
The comfort. The vibe. The freedom.

The unexpected fashion statement.

Crocs with socks somehow became the perfect mix of comfort, confidence, ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—ป๐—ผ๐˜ ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐˜๐—ผ๐—ผ ๐—บ๐˜‚๐—ฐ๐—ต ๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐˜ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฟ๐˜‚๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜€โ€ฆ and honestly, thatโ€™s probably why people love them so much now.

At this point Iโ€™m one step away from decorating them with charms and defending them online like theyโ€™re a luxury brand ๐Ÿคฃ

Moral of the story: never judge a shoe until your feet experience happiness.

Comfort really is a lifestyle โ€” and honestly, being different is way more fun ๐Ÿ’›
