Painter and illuminator Eric Verkade Eric Verkade will be showing during art wave at the Studio. He uses tempera, gold leaf, ink, and a wide assortment of nibs! His work is so intricate and helps to keep traditions of tempera painting, gilding and calligraphy alive through the subject of Sussex folklore and landscape.

Photographer Harry Brayne Harry Brayne will have prints available during Art Wave. I absolutely love this print. For the backdrop Harry used pastel cards, and the colours and textures are perfect.

Artist Andrew Rogers Andy Rogers will be exhibiting at the Studio during Art Wave. His gestural work uses gesso and pigment and it really celebrates the materials used. I first met Andy when he walked in and asked if we had pigment. At the time we didn’t! However we discussed Unison pastels. These pastels are so pure, with just a touch of natural clay binder. Andy’s work really highlights how intensely pigmented they are.

Our latest collaboration with Terry Lewes belt company. The needle makers in Lewes Sussex BN7 2NZ to create a holder for artworks & prints. With leather from the renowned Italian tannery, Badalassi Carlo in Tuscany, oak and a vintage leather frame, we’re delighted how it’s come together!

Looking forward to adding some artworks to it.

We are excited to be taking part in ✨Sussex Craft Week!✨ There is a lot going on across the region from 20th-28th.
These are the events taking place at Oil & Dust: On Monday 22nd we have a wax ring making workshop with Mollie Paling where you will craft your own bespoke ring out of wax, the first step of the lost wax casting technique- it will then be sent off to be cast in recycled sterling silver or gold. Magic ✨ then on the 24th we have an encaustic painting demonstration where you learn about the history of this ancient technique and see it in person! Then on the final day of the craft week we have Terry hosting a belt making workshop, where you will make your own belt that will last a lifetime.💕 Come and support your local craftspeople 💕

When we first opened the shop, Peter Messer came in and we learnt of his extensive pigment collection. He inherited several jars from James Eddie who kept them before him, and from the colourmen who first ground them. Can you spot the old .cornelissen_and_son labels? At the Studio we have, on display only, 17 of those pigments. A small continuing lineage of colour. These bottled pigments are kindly being lent to us from Peter’s studio in Lewes and we are very lucky to have them here for the public to see. Thank you
