We're staying in Nerokouros, just outside Chania in Crete. It's wonderfully peaceful here, high up in the hills with the most incredible views. The warm early evening light is beautiful.

This little painting was done using water-mixable oils. They're taking a bit of getting used to – I'm finding I need to re-apply the paint to build up the richness and intensity of colour that I want. But apart from that, they've been a brilliant investment for holiday painting, and I'm so glad I bought them for this holiday.

So many colour variations from just 3 colours and white!

I get a lot of satisfaction in seeing how amazed students get when they see the miriad of beautiful hues that can be created from 3 primaries. Learning how to control that mix to create subtle neutrals and muted hues as well as vivid chromas that sing!

Wow! The Guggenheim has to be one of the most beautiful buildings I've ever been in. Absolutely loved it, had a private tour which was well worth it, to learn all about its design and construction. Shame to have missed the Jasper John's starting next week. But hey, I'm all walked out, but it was ace.
