I’ve had this clothes rail (cheap purchase from Amazon) for two years now and it’s been a real winner for hanging my blankets on.

I use it when I’m making You Tube videos or when I’m writing up a pattern.

It’s great for hanging a work in progress to check for colour balance etc, or just for displaying older blankets now and again, rather than having them folded up on a shelf all the time.

Makes a good room divider too!

This is the Winter Walk blanket.

First of June? That’s crazy. Another three weeks and the days will begin to get shorter - where has the year gone?

The soundtrack to May has been my incessant cough, but it’s definitely on the way out now, thank goodness. Kudos to my long suffering husband for never (hardly ever) complaining about my endless barking fits that invariably ended with a double sneeze😮‍💨.

May has been mostly the Muted Blues blanket (pattern currently being worked on) and the nameless pink blanket, which is my easy evening pick up.

The garden has taken up quite a bit of time, and we’ve had lots of family visits, which I love. We’ve just waved off my sister and brother in law after a good catch up over the weekend.

The Mickey Mouse? We went to visit our friends last week. They live in beautiful Gullane and we spent a morning in North Berwick which looks out over the Bass Rock. Our friends have an amazing Mickey Mouse collection, including vintage Mickey wallpaper and even carpet. They also collect the Snowman, Buzz Lightyear and Rupert the bear figures. Their grandkids love it, as you can imagine!

So it’s June now and my thoughts are beginning to turn to Christmas 😱 and the Christmas blanket pattern for 2026. It has to be done guys!

Just to remind myself that although we are surrounded by poly tunnels which block our views of the woods, and have tractors starting their day shift at 5am on the road outside our cottage in the summer months, we also have a well stocked farm shop just yards down the lane, this beautiful park across the road and a long, almost deserted beach ten minutes’ walk away.

Could be worse.

We’ve just been down to a charity Plant Sale in the park and picked up a couple of nice bits. I must go and get them planted before the rain comes…..

Have a good weekend, everyone.

I found these old photos from seven/eight years ago and they are of the very first Little Gem blanket under construction.

(It’s a bit like one of those history pages that post pics of the Eiffel Tower being built!😁)

It wasn’t called the Little Gem in those days, it was the Sister Blanket - imaginatively named because I designed it for my sister, in colours to match her living room - which she totally changed shortly after. Typical!

Somewhere along the line it was renamed Little Gem by Sara who I think still holds the record for the number of Little Gem blankets she has made. The record is hotly contested though, Sara!

It’s been a very popular pattern since it was first published and I can’t begin to guess how many Little Gems are out there, in a whole myriad of different colour palettes. I collected a pile of photos several years ago of Little Gems people had shared. I must dig them out sometime too. The different colours were amazing.

If you’ve made a Little Gem in your own choice of colours, I’d love to see it. DM me a pic, please!

Another beautiful example of how acrylic yarn does not need to blocked. This Hellebores blanket was made by one of my Facebook group, Jane Bustin. She photographed it just after she’d given it its Pamper Wash and it looks stunning.

What is a Pamper wash? It’s my pet name for throwing a finished blanket in the washing machine on a short wash and spin, then smoothing it out on a bed and leaving it to dry naturally. The bumps and wrinkles disappear like magic and there’s no need to individually block granny squares.

Only for machine washable yarns like acrylic though! Wool is a different kettle of fish.

The Hellebores pattern is in my Etsy and Ravelry shops. Plus the yarn pack is in Wool Warehouse. Links above in my bio⬆️

It took me ages to get to sleep last night because of the heat. 2.30am came and went and I was still tossing and turning, so I was deep in a dream just after 8 when I vaguely heard the doorbell ringing.

Paul, the friendly gas engineer had phoned and texted, none of which we heard, so it was pure luck I heard the bell. That was an unexpectedly quick start to the morning. I mean, I knew he was scheduled to come between 8 and 12, but it’s usually nearer 12 when they arrive.

Anyway, it meant I was dressed quickly for once, to make the most of the glorious morning.

The bee got a rude awakening too when he was grabbed along with the bluebells.

All in all an ‘interesting’ Tuesday so far.

Finished 🩵💙

She’s relaxing on the spare bed for a little while after her pamper wash and then she’ll be ready for her photoshoot. A girl likes to be prepared when she’s going to be in the spotlight!

Monday again. I did manage to get all 96 squares attached. By Saturday morning I think it was, so that was pretty good going.

I’m totally in love with that Pebble Haze joining colour 😍 and I’m thinking my next pattern will be another Pebble Haze one.

It’s been a busy weekend, with surprise visits from various grandkids (plus friend) and a fair bit of gardening, shopping and visiting.

Leighla appeared on Saturday afternoon with her pal Maisie, having walked along the beach. There had been some water shenanigans and Leighla was soaked, head to foot. I’m guessing she’d been doing cartwheels in the sea, fully clothed - a favourite pursuit😐.

So all her clothes were put in the tumble drier, while she sat about in a dressing gown, chatting non stop and drinking Irn Bru (granny has a never-ending supply).

The thick denims she’d been wearing were taking forever to dry, so I tried popping them on the gas log burner to speed things up. The result was a big brown scorch mark on the front🥴 Oops

But as Leighla said, it was lucky it hadn’t been on the back, or it would have looked a bit dubious! Undeterred, she went home with a piece of green gingham from my fabric drawer and some bondaweb to make a star shaped patch to cover the mark.

Back to crochet, there was also time to add some rounds to the final border of the Muted Blues blanket. If things go to plan it should be finished today, or maybe tomorrow. Yay!

I’m still deliberating whether to add it into the Moody Blues pattern as an extra colourway, or make it a separate pattern 🤔

The thing is, if I ask Wool Warehouse to make up yarn packs for it then it might be easier as a separate pattern.

I’ll ponder some more……

Either way, I’ll provide a Yarn List on my website for anyone who already has the Moody Blues pattern.

Have a lovely day. We’re just off for our usual walk (I might try a cartwheel in the sea) then there’s the last of the plants to put in the garden. And of course, crochet!☺️

It took two days, but it could easily be done in one. I interrupted the crochet flow with walks and some gardening.

Now let’s see how long it takes to attach them all to the blanket. It’s twelve noon on Friday 15th right now. Let’s go!! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Today’s job. The beefy rain showers are keeping me indoors anyway. ☀️🌤️⛅️🌦️🌧️⛈️🌦️⛅️🌤️☀️
