So much going on in the centre of Letchworth this weekend it's hard to know where to start. Or stop.

Friday night is the warm up act ...and the Wynd comes alive (again) outside Vutie Beets with their summer 'VB Lates' food and music evening. Musicians playing this Friday are and .gabrielle.music , 6.30-11pm.

Meanwhile over at Broadway Gardens the monthly Streetfood Heroes with a selection of outdoor food from 4-9pm.

The main event of the weekend is the Food Festival. It's back ! With a twist (and not just the kind you need to make to get out of the giant deckchair). It's happening all day Saturday and Sunday - stalls, events, music and crafts.

Special things to look out for:

- food : catch the Big Scone Blowout at The Bakehouse on Saturday & Sunday while stocks last

- fashion : on Saturday at 12.30, catch Daliani Boutique parading The Arcade, with gorgeous garments galore.

- model making : Eastcheap project space on the edge of Leys Square is launching it's amazing collaborative cheap cottages exhibition, so join in and make a home

- community choir - catch the latest summer singing sensation on Saturday night, as Garden City Singers fill the Free Church in Leys Avenue with music. Tickets £10.

And there are many, many more things happening around town over Friday, Saturday and Sunday. So come on down and wander around and take in the atmosphere.

And when it all gets too much, plop yourself down in the giant deckchair!

Opening this Saturday!!!!

The Eastcheap Cottages Exhibition is a collaborative exhibition making event, building on the legacy of the 'Cheap Cottages Exhibition' held in 1905 in Letchworth.
We are asking for participants to make miniature cottages out of any material to be placed on tabletop landscapes in the Eastcheap Gallery, creating a collaborative artwork by the people of Letchworth and friends. Cottages can be made at home or in the exhibition space and there are no rules to how they should look or what they should be made of; from assembled kebab shop napkins to modernist gems to pebble-dashed miniatures.
The original Cheap Cottages Exhibition was the result of a campaign in 1904 to build cottages for 150 pounds through relaxing byelaws. It was a significant moment in the history of Letch- worth, leading to a boost in growth of the population and community. Inspired by this history, Eastcheap Projects presents Model Village: The Eastcheap Cottages Exhibition, a collaborative project developed by Joe Moss on a residency at Eastcheap Projects. Previously shown at Take Courage Gallery in London and NN Contemporary in Northampton, Model Village explores how a sense of place is made through exchange between people, alongside its physical proper- ties.
Everyone is invited to participate in Model Village throughout its 4-week duration..
The brief:
- Make a 'Cottage' out of whatever you like, around 10x10x10cm
- You can be inventive! it doesn't have to look like a Cottage, it can be anything.
- It can be made at home and brought along, or made with materials in the exhibition space
- Position on the landscapes in the Eastcheap Project Space
- Hang about, talk to friends, read about the history of the original Cheap Cottage Exhibition, see what other people are making
The dates:
- An opening event held on the 15th of July (12-6pm), where you are invited to drop off cottages made at home
- Two drop-in workshops, held on the 23rd and 29th July for Cottage-Building in the Eastcheap Project Space with provided materials.
- An award ceremony on the 12th of August for the 'Best Eastcheap Cottage'
- The installation will remain open on weekends between the 15th of July and the 12th August for the general public to contribute to the installation
