Opening this Saturday!!!!
The Eastcheap Cottages Exhibition is a collaborative exhibition making event, building on the legacy of the 'Cheap Cottages Exhibition' held in 1905 in Letchworth.
We are asking for participants to make miniature cottages out of any material to be placed on tabletop landscapes in the Eastcheap Gallery, creating a collaborative artwork by the people of Letchworth and friends. Cottages can be made at home or in the exhibition space and there are no rules to how they should look or what they should be made of; from assembled kebab shop napkins to modernist gems to pebble-dashed miniatures.
The original Cheap Cottages Exhibition was the result of a campaign in 1904 to build cottages for 150 pounds through relaxing byelaws. It was a significant moment in the history of Letch- worth, leading to a boost in growth of the population and community. Inspired by this history, Eastcheap Projects presents Model Village: The Eastcheap Cottages Exhibition, a collaborative project developed by Joe Moss on a residency at Eastcheap Projects. Previously shown at Take Courage Gallery in London and NN Contemporary in Northampton, Model Village explores how a sense of place is made through exchange between people, alongside its physical proper- ties.
Everyone is invited to participate in Model Village throughout its 4-week duration..
