Hello lovely people! 🖤

Just a reminder that applications to perform at this year's Slippit festival (Sat 28th Nov!) are open until the end of the month.

We're looking for a wide variety of solo acts, bands, and DJs. Whether you're a seasoned pro, or looking to perform on stage for the very first time - we want to hear from you! To those who have already been in touch, we'll get back to you after the deadline.

If you think you'd like to perform but don't actually have a band or a full plan in place then you are very welcome to submit an application and let us know that. Once applications have closed we'll be sharing some opportunities to develop your skills and confidence, find your tribe, and get on that stage. More info coming soon!

We were buzzing to be invited to the SIC's Shetland Youth Voice event last week on Arts and Culture to speak about Slippit and how important it is to see inclusion in our local music scene. Ashlea ran a "build your own festival" workshop with the young people, and it was brilliant to hear more about what they would like to see happen in Shetland.

Putting a festival together (fictional or not!) is no easy feat! For us at Slippit, we're all about championing artists who might not normally see themselves on stage. Last year we had acts who had never performed live before, and for our 2026 festival, we want to continue to provide a platform for those who need it most. On that note - WE ARE OPENING APPLICATIONS FOR SLIPPIT 2026 TOMORROW!!! If you want to see yourself on a real gig poster in the near future, keep your eyes peeled for more details. Thanks a million to the Into the Pitt crew at BBC Radio Shetland for covering Slippit during their festival special. Extra love to Iona for pulling the coverage together, interviewing some of our artists and volunteers, and for giving women and other marginalised people a platform in Shetland’s alt music scene. It means a lot!🎵🖤

Today is International Women's Day and the perfect time to announce that Slippit is back for another year! 🖤💛🩷

We've changed up the date of our festival to coincide with the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, an international campaign to stamp out violence against women and girls, and create a safer and more equal society for everyone. Save the date - Sat 28th Nov 2026 - and join us for another weekend of loud music, creative equality, and empowerment in action. 💪

Keep your eyes peeled over the coming weeks as we share info on how to get involved. We've got some super cool plans for the year ahead and we're so buzzing to be back!⚡

💔 Women involved in this research disclosed personal experiences which included intrusive sexualised comments and advances, pressure to engage in sexual activities, harassment and stalking, domestic abuse, sexual assault and r**e:

75% sexualised questions or remarks,
51% unsolicited sexual advances,
42% non-consensual sexual touching,
28% pressure to engage in any sexual activities,
21% stalking or harassment,
17% online abuse,
17% sexual assault/or r**ed,
13% domestic abuse.
