Shetland Noir Shetland Noir Festival Thursday 11th - Sunday 14th June 2026

Shetland Noir will run over 4 days in June 2023, with a programme packed full of internationally known writer events, workshops, panel discussions and outings. We are delighted to announce award-winning crime-writer and creator of the world-famous Jimmy Perez Shetland novels Ann Cleeves OBE as Patron of Shetland Noir 2023. Ann will be supported in her role by Shetland’s own Marsali Taylor.

A limited number of Early Bird Noir Cards (£70) are on sale now, full price tickets/passes (£85) will start from January 1, 2023 and tickets for individual events will be available later in the year when the full programme is announced.

📣 Exciting announcement - we have Day Cards and headliner events going on sale tomorrow morning (Friday 13 March) at 10am!

🧐What is a Day Card?
Day Cards include access to events taking place on the selected day - these are available for Friday/Saturday/Sunday of the festival. This includes access to panels and artist talks.

🗣️ "In Conversion With" Headliner events
Our five headliners will talk about their work in front of an audience, accompanied by a fellow guest to let the conversation flow.

📚✨ All our headliners are confirmed for Shetland Noir 2026!

We’re thrilled to welcome five incredible names to this year’s festival:

🔹 Lee Child - creator of Jack Reacher, with over 100 million books sold worldwide.
🔹 Louise Penny - international bestselling author of the Chief Inspector Gamache series.
🔹 Vaseem Khan - award-winning crime writer, bringing stories from India to Bond’s Q.
🔹 Professor Lorna Dawson - world-leading forensic soil scientist and expert witness.
🔹 Yrsa Sigurðardóttir - Iceland’s Queen of Crime, bestselling in 30+ languages.

🕵️‍♂️ Shetland Noir’s next headliner – Vaseem Khan!

🔎 Vaseem Khan is the author of two award-winning crime series set in India and the upcoming Quantum of Menace, the first in a series featuring Q from the James Bond franchise. His debut, The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra, was selected by the Sunday Times as one of the 40 best crime novels published 2015-2020. In 2021, Midnight at Malabar House, the first in the Malabar House novels set in 1950s Bombay, won the CWA Historical Dagger.

🧬 Shetland Noir headliner - Professor Lorna Dawson!

🔎 We’re thrilled to welcome forensic soil scientist Professor Lorna Dawson CBE to Shetland Noir 2026. Lorna is a trained Expert Witness, a registered expert with the National Crime Agency and has worked on over 200 real-world cases alongside police forces across the UK and internationally.

🧪 She’s Head of the Centre for Forensic Soil Science at the James Hutton Institute, Honorary Professor at Robert Gordon University and Professora CESPU. She has published over 150 scientific papers and was awarded a CBE in June 2018, for services to soil and forensic science.

📚Professor Dawson joins Louise Penny, Lee Child and Vaseem Khan as a headline speaker for Shetland Noir 2026.

🇮🇸Shetland Noir headliner - Yrsa Sigurdardottir

🔪We are thrilled to have Icelandic author and co-founder of Iceland's premier annual literary festival Iceland Noir joining us for Shetland Noir.

📖Yrsa's novels have been translated to over 30 languages, sold over 5 million copies and won numerous awards both in Iceland and abroad. Two of her stand-alone horror novels have been made into films and her latest book 'Can’t Run, Can’t Hide' was recently purchased for TV production in the UK.

🏗In addition to being an author, Yrsa is a civil engineer and was the technical manager for the construction supervision of the Kárahnjúkar Power Plant project, Iceland’s largest construction undertaking to date. She has also taught at the UNESCO Geothermal Training Program and is an advocate for increased female participation in the fields of STEM.

📚Yrsa joins Lee Child, Louise Penny, Vaseem Khan and Professor Lorna Dawson as a headline speaker for Shetland Noir 2026.
