Let's face it. Vampires are just cool 😎

They've got style. They've got power. They throw extravagant parties, wear ridiculous outfits and somehow make drinking wine look intimidating.

Which brings us to today's Commander Spotlight...

Olivia Voldaren.

One of Innistrad's most iconic villains and the undisputed queen of vampire tribal.

Olivia doesn't just command vampires. She makes them.

A little damage here, a little bloodshed there, and before long your opponents' creatures have joined the family whether they wanted to or not. Then, with enough mana, Olivia simply takes what's hers.

Because why destroy your enemies when you can recruit them?

If you're going to embrace the dark side of Commander, you may as well do it with elegance.

Another Friday means another chance to gather around the table with fellow geeks, roll some dice, shuffle some cards and enjoy a relaxed evening of gaming at the Tavern.

Whether you're bringing your favourite Magic deck, breaking out a board game, painting miniatures, trying Gaslands or simply looking for some like-minded nerds to spend the evening with, the doors are open and the tables are waiting.

🪶 COMMANDER SPOTLIGHT: KASTRAL, THE WINDCRESTED 🪶

Let's be honest, when most people think of tribal decks, they think Dragons, Zombies, Slivers or Elves.

But tucked away in the skies above Bloomburrow is one of my favourite reminders that Commander can be wonderfully weird.

🪶Kastral, the Windcrested🪶

Because sometimes... Birds matter.

Kastral rewards your flock for doing what birds do best: soaring over blockers and pecking your opponents to death from above. Every successful attack gives you options to rebuild your board, strengthen your aerial army or simply draw more cards.

It's value. It's resilience.

And it's surprisingly terrifying when an innocent-looking flock suddenly turns into a feathered nightmare.

There's just something magical about winning a game with an army of angry pigeons and owls while your opponents stare in disbelief.

That's Commander at its finest.

What an absolutely incredible weekend at the Tavern!

First up was Mystery Booster 2 Draft Event 2: Electric Boogaloo, and once again the set delivered some wild cards, fantastic games and some genuinely amazing pulls.

Congratulations to Dom, Morgan and Anthony for taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively!

Although I think the biggest surprise of the night was seeing Walls Tribal somehow fight its way into 4th place out of eight players. I still don't know whether to applaud or be deeply concerned. 😂

Then came Pride: The Gathering, and wow... what a turnout!

The effort everyone put into their decks was incredible. From the stories behind them, to the research, the themes, the ships and the sheer creativity on display, it was genuinely wonderful to see. There were some amazing plays throughout the evening, but the deck that ultimately stole my heart was Luke's. Absolutely phenomenal work 😁

A huge congratulations to all four winners across both events, who each took home one of the gorgeous Treasure Tokens created by the wonderful folks over at Runes & Relics.

Thank you so much for donating these fantastic prizes, guys. They looked absolutely incredible and were very well deserved.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who came along over the weekend. Events like these remind me just how lucky I am to have such a brilliant community gathered around our little Tavern.

🎲 OPEN GAME NIGHT TONIGHT! 🎲

The work week is nearly done, the dice are calling, and somewhere out there is a table waiting for your next great story.

Whether you're looking to sling spells in Magic, battle it out in Blood on the Clocktower, march tiny plastic soldiers across a battlefield, race across the wasteland in Gaslands, or simply sit down with a board game and some like-minded nerds, tonight is the perfect excuse to get out of the house and join the community.

One of the things I love most about the Tavern is watching complete strangers arrive through the door and leave a few hours later swapping Discord details, arranging games, and arguing passionately about which fictional character would win in a fight.

If you've ever thought "I'd love to get into tabletop gaming, but I don't know anyone who plays" then tonight is exactly for you.

Pull up a chair. Roll some dice. Meet some fellow geeks.

You never know what adventure starts around a tavern table.

Come on... Let's not pretend.

The Marvel previews dropped yesterday and every single one of you immediately started looking for the most ridiculous Commander in the set. And then there she was...

🐿️The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl🐿️

A hero capable of defeating cosmic threats, world-ending villains and apparently the concept of "reasonable board states."

For four mana, she starts creating squirrels every time she enters or attacks. Then, once you've got a few furry friends running around, she doubles down and starts multiplying them at an absolutely disgusting rate.

And let's be honest... you've all already had the same thought:

🤔 - Squirrel Girl & Chatterfang.

One makes squirrels. The other turns everything into more squirrels. What could possibly go wrong?

Nothing! Nothing at all!

Except perhaps the table being buried beneath an avalanche of fluffy woodland nonsense before somebody swings for lethal.

We know you've seen the previews. We know you've picked your favourite. And we know it's probably Squirrel Girl. We don't judge you 🐿️
