The laser emits a pulse of very high heat to heat up the tattoo pigment, followed by a sonic click, which then breaks up the tattoo ink pigment. Then it's left for your white blood cells to take the shattered pigments away. This is why it is impossible to say how long it would take to clear the tattoo, as it's upto each individuals body reaction time!
