New to print? Want to get back into making work? Have you done a course or taster and want to find out more?

Introduction to Print is a fantastic way to explore a variety of popular techniques and get an idea of what suits your printmaking palette.

Each session is taught by a different specialist providing you with an opportunity to experiment with intaglio, relief and planographic techniques and work with screenprinting, monoprint, linocut, drypoint, etching and wooden type.

This course is perfect for beginners, those who wish to refresh their understanding or established printmakers who simply want an enjoyable challenge. With afternoon and evening options it's also an easy way to fit some printmaking in around your schedule.

📣Today we are introducing you to the final three artists taking part in our next exhibition Root & Branch:

Kate Fortune-Jones
Kate's work, which is mostly centred on lithography, employs the unique qualities of tusche ink washes to achieve delicate, membranous lines with which she describes her intricate organic forms.

Sleep Walks’ was created during a residency in rural Wales in 2015 where the artist was taking long walks in the autumnal forests around the village. Sometimes they would be tempted to lay down on top of the deeply piled leaves of the forest floor and one day they gathered a sack full of leaves and lay them on the studio floor, and slept on them.

Robyn Maclennan .art
Robyn uses multiple printmaking and photography processes such as photopolymer, etching and cyanotypes to explore her current research into ecoGothic theory and how it can be used to re-examine our relationship with the forest.

Bored of printing on paper? Ever wondered about printing on fabric instead? Well we have three amazing textile printing courses coming up that you wont want to miss!

First up is Introduction to Textile Screenprint with Alex Palmer, the perfect starting point for your textile journey. Taking place on the 5th September 10am - 4pm.

Next we have Textile Embellishment Taster taking place on 26th September, 10am - 2pm. An exciting taster exploring heatpress techniques - flocking and foiling puff binder to embellish fabrics and add texture to create one off pieces of textile art.

Finally, Repeat Pattern Fabric Printing with Mandeep Dhadialla on 17th October, 10am - 4pm. During this day you will learn how to transform a simple design into a repeat pattern, creating a beautiful handprinted piece of fabric using the linocut printmaking technique.

📣Today we have two more artists to introduce who are exhibiting as part of Root & Branch:

Serena Smith
Whose 'Iconostasis' works in the exhibition combine woodland elements with the formal structures of sacred artefacts: printed from multiple stones, these hand-coloured stone lithographs depict sliced sections of tree trunks and obliquely reference the polyptych format and visual syntax of Byzantine icons.

Claire Morris-Wright
The Hedge Project was funded by Arts Council England and the John Downs Oppenheimer Memorial Trust. This large body of work reflected Claire’s changing relationship with the hedge in her village and looks at how our environments impact on our personal lives in both urban and rural locations.

We cannot contain our excitement for upcoming Printed Indian Woodblocks course!

Designed in house, the blocks are carved by skilled craftspeople in India, a collaboration between cultures and generations. Taking place on the 5th of September, you will learn how to print using these blocks using ink on calico and paper, identifying differences in surfaces and creating a series of patterns and repeats.

Neera's work explores layering patterns and images using Indian woodblocks. The blocks hold a familiarity unlike other printmaking tools, Neera finds the process of mark making through these a meditative practice. Neera has previously run workshops with galleries including V&A, British Museum, Somerset House and the William Morris Society.
