Leicester will host its first multi-tradition Buddha Purnima celebrations on May 6, 2024.
Organised by the All the Buddhist traditions in Leicester and across the UK.
This public event at Gateway College brings together Buddhist groups across lineages and Leicester's faith communities to commemorate the Buddha's Birth, Enlightenment and Parinirvana. (Great Passing away).
The celebrations aim to showcase how diverse Buddhist cultures and teachings can inspire interfaith
harmony, peace and unity.
Highlights of the day's festivities include:
The grand procession has diverse Buddhist traditions, enter the venue.
Traditions offering blessings to share the essence of Buddha Purnima (Buddha Birth Anniversary).
Cultural rituals for visitors to experience various Buddhist traditions.
Outdoor performances conveying Buddhas message.
Art exhibition featuring works by diverse Buddhist artists.
Introductory meditation sessions with each tradition.
We invite the entire Leicester community to join us on this auspicious occasion.
This special opportunity is to commemorate the Buddha's life and awakening alongside fellow residents.
Programme
1.00 p.m. Procession of Buddhist Traditions Entering the main assembly, welcome all faiths.
2.00 p.m. - 3.00 p.m.
Welcome Speech & Blessing Programme by all the Buddhist Tradition.
3.00 p.m.
Open the Vesak Art Gallery, Vesak Pandal & Vesak Lanterns Refreshments
3.15 p.m. - 3.30 p.m. Awarding Certificates
4.00 p.m. - 4.35 p.m. Guided Multi-Tradition Meditation Session
Visitors will have the chance to participate in 20 minutes guided meditation sessions sampling different Buddhist Meditation styles.
And will be held at front wooden huts and some rooms upstairs.
5.00 p.m. - 6.00 p.m. - Indoor cultural performance celebrating Buddhism's message.
