There is a wonderful exhibition at The Leicester Stories Gallery which celebrates Ruth Miller and the Unglamorous movement. It really reflects the joy of what Ruth created.

Brilliantly curated by
and her trusty volunteers.

The exhibition runs until January so plenty of time to visit. And you can listen to the Sampler Album too.

When Ruth Miller founded Unglamorous Music, she had a powerful vision: to bring women into bands and onto stages where they had been missing.

We can proudly say that she achieved this goal in Leicester. Before she began, there were no all-women bands in our city—now, there are over 20. This incredible accomplishment has transformed Leicester’s music scene for the better.

Now is a time for change. Unglamorous Music will be ending at the end of October 2024 and a collective of the women bands will be going forward as a separate entity taking what Ruth has taught us, expanding and adapting it.

There are currently some workshops being organised by & Please watch out for information as the new collective moves forward.

Stayfree Music in partnership with Unglamorous band members are offering taster sessions to womxn who are interested in playing music in a safe environment. Complete beginners are welcome, as are those who are a bit more experienced.
