Le Phonographique AKA The Phono Leeds' favourite dark and dingy alternative club. For many a year inhabited by freaks of all descriptions. Sadly now defunct.

Please join and tell any other Phono-ites that may be interested in Le Phono reunions. In general we hold 2 reunions a year, one around Christmas and one in the middle of the year somewhere. Le Phono reunions play alternative mnusic that pre

dates 2000. Le phono reunions cover music for many alternative genre including goth, puck, alternative, rock and many random tracks that appealed to the alternative market between 1975-2000.

Our next event will be The Phono Sat. Aft, (3 October 2026).Early bird tickets have already SOLD OUT, please do not buy tickets from DODGY FACEBOOK SCAMMERS, advanced tickets are still avaliable at £10 each or you can pay £12 cash on the door.

Dont forget the first 100 people will be entitled to a Phono patented drinks token which will give them a free drink (241).

What is Le Phonographique about?

Le Phonographique (aka The Phono) was a dark and dingy night club formed in the bowels of the Merrion centre,Leeds, in 1979 and it's wildly recognised as the WORLD’s FIRST gothic nightclub! (Pre dating the Bat Cave by 3years) The Phono was frequested by bands like The Sisters of Mercy, The Misson, March Violets and even The Clash played a gig there in May 1985. It soon became a safe haven for all sorts of alternative people who were seen by others as freaks, weirdos or misfits!

Starting in 1981 The Phono ran a Saturday afternoon drinking session. Paying homage to this Hifi Club Leeds will be opening from 1pm to 6pm (this probably makes The Phono the GRANDDAD of afternoon drinking sessions 😎

You can expect to hear a combination of punk, post punk, newwave, goth, grunge, alternative rock and the best dance floor fillers of the 20th century.!

Sadly the original venue closed in 2006 but in 2008 previous owners of the club and former DJ’s came together to keep the spirit of the club alive!

Original Le Phonographique Dj's will be playing the tunes and it will be, probably the most authentic retro alternative music event you will ever go to!

The Phono events appeal to a mixture of people ranging from the original goths, punks and old phono-ites through to the alternative youth of today wanting to experience what The Phono was back in the day🦇
