STROBES

“a scattered assault of slightly math-rock explorations, soaring post-rock guitars, grooving African rhythms and glitchy, pulverising electronics”

Formed of keyboardist Dan Nicholls (who has worked with Squarepusher and Matthew Herbert), drummer Joshua Blackmore (Troyka) and guitar and synth man Matt Calvert (Three Trapped Tigers, Heritage Orchestra) – this band has created, via their debut release Brokespeak, an album that eschews genre and feels free from time-stamps. They are an intensely high-octane group that fire off frantic tempos and intricate complexities, yet they also retain an accessibility through fluid grooves and an engaging sense of melodic intuition

CAMERON VALE

A welcome and long awaited return to Fusebox for Cameron Vale who first played for us on 28th November 2014, when they made and left their mark.
Formed in Leeds in summer 2013, Cameron Vale is made up of members from diverse musical backgrounds. In their music, they combine improvisation, jazz, rock and electronics with original compositions. Expect a high energy blend of polyrhythms, improvisation and riffage.

WE HOPE THAT THIS ISN'T ALL TOO CONFUSING AND WE HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL AT BRUDENELL SOCIAL CLUB on SATURDAY 4TH FEBRUARY.

FUSEBOX IS CHANGING

As I mentioned at the last gig, the Fusebox Core Team have been discussing ways in which we might develop Fusebox.

We've done great things over the last few years and we want to thank every musician who's played a show and, most importantly, every audience member who's bought a ticket.

Due to this fantastic support all of us here at Fusebox want to give you all something better, something bigger and something stronger.

In order for us to do this we need to take some time.

So, as Fusebox changes, we ask you all to be patient and stick by us.

In the meantime we'll keep Fusebox in your mind, by being in touch with info on Fusebox-related artists including live shows, releases, videos and broadcasts so you will always be up to date and live music to listen to.

You'll see and hear soon, on here, what happens next with Fusebox and we think you're going to love it.

With Great Respect, a Heartfelt Thanks and a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Thanks to Mole, Chris Sharkey and the audience for another great night at Fusebox, last night.

Starting with an impressive, bluesy guitar solo performance by Mr Sharkey and after a break it was the raucous, anarchic sound that is Mole. Driven by the crazy rhythms of Paul Hession on drums and Dave Kane on bass, Christophe de Bezenac and Petter Frost Fadnes blew each other and us all away with some aggressive sax battles, leaving everyone exhausted at the close.

A brilliant performance by 5 musicians at the top of their game.

As I mentioned to the audience,, this was sadly the last Fusebox gig of 2016 but we have some exciting plans for the development of Fusebox into 2017 but this might mean a break for a few months while we pprepare the next phase.

I will keep a flow of updates and info going on this page so I urge you to stay in touch with us in the meantime.

It's a little early but here's all the best to you all, from Fusebox for the festive period and thanks for your support during 2016.

Another amazing night of musical pyrothechnics at Fusebox last night. The firework display was provided by Hans-Peter Hiby, Mick Bardon and Paul Hession, who individually were superb and as a unit were extraordinary. It wasn't just me and Laura Cole who thought that this was, with due respect to all of the other great musicians that we have showcased this year, the most powerful performance of 2016 and sometime further back.
The explosives were provided by Paul on the drums, the twang by Mick on bass, leaving him with blistered fingers and the light display by Hans. It was relentless and to manage any fire risk Hans played a glass of water (to great effect, I might add).
The audience described the performance as 'overwhelming' and 'fu**in' great' and we would like to thank everyone who turned out, providing us with a larger than usual following. Please keep this up to keep Fusebox alight.
And after a brief rest Paul Hession is returning to Fusebox for our next gig on Friday 25th November.
It's bad news and good news. Monocled Man have had to cancel but we are to be treated to a first performance by Mole. Made up of Dave Kane, Paul Hession, Petter Frost Fadnes and Christophe de Bezenac, Mole will be recording in Leeds on the day of the gig and should be well warmed up for the evening. More on this in later posts.
But for now a few images from last night.

Hi.

Friday 4th November begins the fireworks in Leeds, with Fusebox's first November gig at the Fox and Newt.
We are privileged to present the Hans-Peter Hiby Trio to light the touch paper with some auditory pyrotechnics.

Hans Peter Hiby first encountered British drummer Paul Hession in the Winter of 1986 when they started playing together as a duo in Hiby's home-town of Wuppertal. Having grown up and spending much of his childhood with Caspar Brötzmann, Hiby has deep roots within the Wuppertaler free jazz community.
Hiby/Hession has played throughout Germany as well as Switzerland, Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands and on occasions augmented the duo with bass players Marcio Mattos, Roberto Bellatalla, Peter Kowald and recently Dieter Manderscheid.
For this short UK tour, Leeds-based, Fusebox favourite, bass player Michael Bardon completes the trio. He has played throughout the UK and Europe including festivals in Sardinia, Germany, Italy and Poland and his dynamic playing is the perfect fit for this trio.

Come down to the Fox and Newt, hear some great sounds and support Fusebox in keeping new music live in Leeds.
