Hello day!

I too fell in love with little Panchi the monkey, and ended up drawing up a character sheet as part of a recent portfolio refresh. Swipe for the sketchbook sketches 🐵

All of my art work is hand drawn, starting out as sketches and paintings in my sketchbook, and finished illustrations drawn on my iPad. I love drawing expressive characters, and also enjoy a challenge of applying my visual style to something I haven’t drawn before.

Happy day! And it’s the last one of the year, that sure did whizz by.

A quick little illustration with a nod to Christmas in today’s art work. They ended up getting more paint on each other than the handmade cards.

Happy National Illustration Day! Supporting artist and celebrating all things illustration as set up by in 2023.

It’s been an especially tough and tricksy industry of late, but I still wholeheartedly believe in the power of illustration and how it touches everyone’s lives, whether they know it or not.

A picture speaks a thousand words after all. Why bother to develop image generators if it wasn’t such a powerful thing? The impact of prompt slop (I refuse to call it art because it’s very much not) and power of pictures on the industry shows that.

After all, telling stories with pictures is innate within all of us!

Like many illustrators, I’ve been reflecting a lot this past year on where I want to take my practice, and where the future of the industry is going… it’s hard to know what the future holds, and very easy to slip down a pitfall of despair.

Every time I do, I can’t help but feel that making art and telling stories from the heart of the human experience is more important than ever in our literacy and empathy crisis. This motivates me everyday, I won’t stop and can’t stop.

I just needed to get that out of my system, because I see too many posts acting like ~everything~is~fine~and~the~work~is~out~there~ when it’s not. Recognising the tough times means we can work together to make a better tomorrow.

Anyway here’s a recent illustration in the spirit of team work based on the legend of Dinas Emrys Castle. Where the royal stone masons kept rebuilding the castle that crumbled every night.

Originally made for but I got crippled with chronic illness to finish in time, and also cancelled my Thought Bubble trip too. I have a short comic roughed out so I’m catching up with the prompts in my own time around other work and will share the full comic soon.
