We're thrilled to reveal the cast and creative team for the world premiere of Inua Ellams' powerful new play, directed by Roy Alexander Weise.

As the world’s first Theatre of Sanctuary, we were honoured to welcome audiences to join us at The Table as part of Refugee Week 2026.

The Table – a new play by award-winning playwright Aisha Zia and directed by Leeds-based Mafwa Theatre – is a unique national, multi-venue project shaped by four years of research with migrant communities across the UK.

Developed with support from our Theatre of Sanctuary programme with partners including City of Sanctuary and First Bus, the Leeds production explored identity, home, belonging and community, reflecting our commitment to welcoming refugees and people seeking asylum.

Join us for a special evening celebrating the life of Gina Tavares Manuel and introducing the winners of the first poetry competition created in her memory.

Hosted by Paulette Morris and Tânia Camara, the event will showcase performances from the winning young poets, with spoken word and music from community groups throughout the evening.
