A little painting on canvas, inspired by my bedroom curtains. Original Heal’s fabric Verdure by Peter Hall.
The curtains are pretty threadbare now, they had a life in a school in London, I guess from at least the early 70s, so given they’re at least 50 years old, it’s not surprising. Forever grateful to my dear friend Rachel for carting them around north & south London for me until I finally collected them from her.

Plus a few other bits of vintage fabrics & wallpaper I’ve collected over the years.
And a fairly vintage Maggie who’s been having a tough time recently with ticks, tummy troubles, and most recently conjunctivitis. Poor old bean, happily treats always perk her up❤️

Thanks so much for your concern about Maggie last week, she was quite poorly for a few days, and that’s always a worry when you have an elderly dog. Happily she seems to have bounced back and is currently giving me the hard bear stare because she wants treats!

I enjoyed creating these birds ages ago, I think I had ravens in mind. I had planned to do more work in this style, but as is the way, I got distracted by the next new shiny idea and forgot all about them. I just found them in amongst a pile of papers. Now I’ve remembered about them, I’m going to try my best to create some more slightly spooky weird animals & birds, coz it’s fun, and I love doing the less commercial art. 🐦‍⬛

Yesterday was great, I spent the whole day painting. I went through all the stages, where do I start (just start) can I do this (just try) followed by several hours of this is s**t (keep going) then finally, I quite like this now (relief!)

This morning was fairly traumatic for poor old Maggie. A gift of ticks from Scotland. Don’t swipe past the cat if you don’t care to see the nasty critters. Luckily I got them out intact, we’ve both been checking her every day but her fur is so dense it’s tricky. It was like these two horrible things were suddenly just there this morning.

If you make it past the ticks there’s a wee surprise in the last 2 photos, our friends who are still up in the Highlands found a poorly bat. So cute, but also covered in ticks, they’ve now taken it to a bat rescue for proper care. Standing Stone Glass you’re a star! ❤️

Can you help me make a decision about these cupboard doors in our van? I had intended to paint them in loads of different colours, but it took me forever to paint this one side just in white! I’m now wondering if I should maybe simplify the design & add gold details on the white, instead of full colour…otherwise I fear I will never get the other side completed! Pretty happy with how it’s all slowly coming together, Jon has done such a good job, and I’m in vintage fabric heaven!

Just returned from a few days in the Scottish Highlands. What an absolutely stunning part of the world, and the rain was a nice change to the relentless heat we’ve had in Leeds. Midges were not so welcome 🦟

I’m so pleased to have these two pieces in ATELIER BESIDE THE SEA summer open exhibition this year. There’s an open event tomorrow evening, which, if I wasn’t 400 miles away I’d definitely go to. Thanks Tutton and Young for selecting my slightly macabre Hands of Glory. Read about the inspiration behind the work Whitby Museum, it involves hanging, hands being severed, burglary, witchcraft…fascinating weird folklore stuff.

In other news I had some blood tests done this morning, then fainted. Fortunately I was in the right place to be looked after, and the nurse was a sweetheart & made sure I didn’t fall off the chair! Apparently this is fairly a normal occurrence, though it’s never happened to me before. I’m still feeling a bit dazed, so I’m really looking forward to my dermatology appointment this afternoon 😂

PS it’s also the last day of the Faire market today. See the last image - lush new cat prints & cards, plus new Welsh language cards. Thanks to everyone who’s placed an order so far this week, you’ve made me very happy ❤️

New Welsh language cards are now available wholesale (not yet on my website or Etsy, but coming soon!)

I’m taking part in the Faire summer market next week. I’ve seen lots of other businesses like mine asking wholesale customers to use their direct link, and I am too, and I am too.

If you’re thinking of placing an order with me for the first time, use my direct link or the QR code in this post, or DM me, or send me a message and I escape Faire’s 25% commission fee.

Please share this post with any lovely indie Welsh shops you know of who might like my designs & I’ll love you forever (that last bit may not be exactly true, but I will be super grateful ☺️)

What do you think of my new cat design? It’s one of a few I’ve created recently, once I started I found it difficult to stop! There are new cards & prints. I’ve added them as a pre order in my Faire shop.

I had a day off today (or a few hours at least) and met up with my dear friend Janine McFadden in Saltaire. We haven’t seen each other for a long time and it was lovely to catch up. I’m ashamed to say I’d never been to the Hockney gallery in Salts Mill, even though I worked nearby for years. No idea why I haven’t been before, anyway it was really inspiring.

We also popped into Giddy Arts for a coffee (iced) and saw some gorgeous work by Emily Parkin.

The past couple of months or so have been pretty full on with getting the van ready to go away in, travelling to & doing craft markets, having visitors, a big freelance job, plus all of the other jobs that are part of running your own business. We had plans for this weekend, but decided we needed to just stop, so we’re both excited to do absolutely nothing this weekend.

I’m going to attempt to make a vegan, no onion or garlic moussaka tomorrow…hopefully it’ll be delicious 🤞

Thanks to Jon for the pretty decent photo of me from National Festival of Making makers market on Saturday. And huge thanks to Heather from Hopeful & Glorious for organising. Thanks to Blackburn for having me 😊

That’s me done with markets until in September.

Feeling happy to have pushed myself and taken part in 3 new events over the last month, and thanks to Mr Evans who has been a total star driving me around the north of England, and for working so hard on the van & getting it to the point where it’s really comfortable to stay in ❤️

Now this week is going to be mainly about cats, which is a thing I never thought I’d be saying!

I saw it’s international whippet day today! There seems to be a day for absolutely everything doesn’t there?!

I love all dogs, but I’m particularly partial to a scruffy terrier. The dog design is a new card inspired by the fab Nancy & Lois. It’ll be available to buy soon.

We’ve had a lush weekend in the van in Lancashire. The makers market National Festival of Making was great. I saw a few familiar faces, and met new customers & artists, and everyone was so welcoming.

By Saturday evening even Maggie had chilled out, Dearden wood was perfect. Back home now, let the unpacking begin!
