A couple from my urban sketch course at Sunny Bank Mills which finished last week. We got to draw the derelict interior or the old mill - a good challenge - and I demo'd this London pub, the Three Greyhounds. I'd been down to see Beetlejuice the musical, and right opposite the theatre was this shonky old building that looked like Tim Burton had drawn it and plonked it there, in the middle of the West End. The stories that these street scenes hold is the thing I enjoy most about urban sketching.

A few sketchbook pages from when I visited the Natural History Museum a couple of weeks ago. It was incredibly crowded, so difficult to draw. I also had mixed feelings, to say the least, about enjoying the bird taxidermy so much. Knowing that some of these species would never be seen by the human eye again, that more were on the brink, and that the sort of Victorian Gentlemen's collector cabinets we were looking at here played a role in this, made for an uncomfortable experience. Then again - what's done can't be undone, and if these displays help more of us realise just how precious, awesome, and weird these creatures are, and if they pique our curiosity about how to help them... That can only be a good thing I guess. What do you reckon?
