“From the River to the Sea” is the title of this piece and in the words of Basel Adra, “the land you have to kill for is not yours. The land you have to die for is” a quote he used in the 2025.

Basal Adra, a film maker and director used this quote in his Oscars acceptance speech for The documentary film ‘No other Land.’ Sums up my sculpture.

The Sculpture was a direct response to the proposition by Trump and Netanyahu that this land could be taken and rebuilt on and made into a luxury resort. Something that Israel have been planning for years.

I wanted to represent some of the heart rending stories: So I have the figure of 5 year old Hind Rajab whose brutal massacre and murder took place in January 2024. When an Israeli tank fired 355 bullets into the family car she was traveling in, killing too the whole family and the Red Crescent Ambulance sent for and phoned for by Hind.

I have too Yousaf Al Safadi a 40 day old baby, born almost at the same time as my youngest grandson, whose death in July 2025 was a result of the lack of baby formula and his mothers inability to breast feed due to starvation and lack of food.

I’ve made too an un named toddler representing those 20,000 children killed in this Genocide.

Then there’s the boy Amir/ Abood who begged for food at a GHF food site and was thought to be murdered by gunfire but later discovered alive and whisked out of Gaza by the Israel, he represents the many young boys sent to get food - for their families.

Lastly, the last two are Anas Al-Sharif, a beloved Palestinian journalist who was targeted by the Israeli army in a tent outside Al-Shifa Hospital in August 2025.

And with ever hope I have the amazing Doctor and Director Hussam Abu Safiya who in December 2024 left Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia in Northern Gaza. After the Israeli strike and siege on the hospital, he’d previously lost his Son who was killed there. He refuse to leave his patients. he has been held in Ofer Prison ever since without charge.

It’s these and so many more people whose land is a land of beauty and of Olives, of sea and Palestinian Sun birds. May your beauty shine and may one day you be free.

In response to Jyoti Sahi’s Dalit Madonna, this evocative sculpture invites reflection on birth, hope, and humanity across borders. A baby emerges from rubble—fragile, sacred, universal. Today my Sculpture “From Rubble Reborn” (not the incorrect title they printed in their brochure) It went on exhibition today at Bradford Cathedral until November 28th, as part of their Global Connections Season in their Chapel of the Holy Spirit.

It was a response to a painting called The ‘Dalit Madonna’ by Jyoti Sahi - front cover of their Brochure this painting belongs to the Methodist Art Collection and went on display in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit until last week.

Some of you may know I went out to India 40 years ago and actually stayed at the ashram of Jyoti and Jane Sahi in Silvepura, near Bangalore, and even named my son Joseph Jyoti after him.

Long story short: The Dalit Madonna by Jyoti Sahi challenges the concept of the untouchable caste system with Jesus depicted as the Grinding stone, gringing wheat to make the Bread of life. I too wanted my response to challenge that Jesus was born a Palestinian Jew with the stone being rubble.

I therefore dedicate this piece to the Palestinian people of Gaza, whose indomitable spirit and resilience to endure pain and suffering while we in the world look on in horror.

I feel committed to not looking away, it’s not complicated, it’s basic humanity calling for action. Silence allows for the biggest evil to take place. As a mother and now a baby’s grandmother, how can I watch other babies die from lack of formula when I know my Grandchild has access to it all? it’s time to forget my bad foot and March…

My beautiful new grandson is 2 months old and this clay grandson is made to measure. Born weighing so much more. Welcome to my clay world, clay baby boy! Maybe I should be called Medusa who turns people into stone with just a stare as I’m slowly turning my family into stoneware ceramics. .
