Paddle Poems by Barney Poems I write. Mainly early hours of the morning.

September’s sun started to awaken my soul
The light fresh breeze opened my closed eyes
I saw my dreams turn red orange and yellow
Colours that hid my warm shy tears
Enveloping a need for love
So when the cold months appear
I shall be there to hold you
Within a blanket of hope.

The Man Inside the Shadow…

There is a man inside a shadow.
No one knows how he got there.
No one remembers the last time he spoke.
The shadow follows silently,
dark and stretched across the ground, formed by years of being forgotten.
But inside there is a man.
He walks in darkness,
beneath the weight of everything he has carried,
searching for a door that was never built for him.
He remembers the clouds.
He remembers the rain.
He remembers the cold and how everyone went home.
Everyone except him.
He moved away.
Somehow, he became part of the shadow.
A prisoner of the past.
Now every time the shadow remembers the good times.
He feels a little light enter
through the darkness.
A little warmth reaches him.
A distant sound
of children laughing
finds its way inside.
And he remembers
what it was like
to be alive.
He presses his hands
against the inside wall.
He calls out.
But the shadow gives no answer.
Only silence.
Only the echo of a man who refuses to disappear.
Perhaps that is why
the shadow still moves.
Not because the light changes, but because the man inside is still walking.
Still searching.
Still believing there must be a way out.
And perhaps one day
someone will notice it.
They will stand
in the fading light and see that the shadow moves
when nobody else does.
And if they listen closely,
they might hear
a heartbeat.
Not theirs.
His.
The man inside
has been waiting
all these years for someone to understand.
He was never dead.
He was only trapped
inside something
everyone else had already given up on.
So the shadow waits.
The man waits.
And somewhere
between the darkness
and the fading light,
he keeps walking,
because even inside
a shadow, a living heart
can refuse

to stop.
