A really powerful watch in relation to alcohol dependency in South Asian women. This documentary highlights the shame and stigma around mental health and the courage it has taken for this British Punjabi family to show the rawness of their journey is nothing but inspiring. Addiction doesn't discriminate and whatever our cultural background, gender or sexuality; many will turn to alcohol to cope. If you need support it is always available ❤️ Please feel free to share.

IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS ❤️ 😊 ✨
As the darker nights start to creep in, it can be very hard to find light. Clients often seek my professional support during the winter months due to anxiety or depression. This is where my 'little things list' comes in 📝 ✨

It's a really simple way of attempting to find and remind about ways to boost your mental health 😊 So why not give it a go....write down little things which make you happy, even if they seem silly....there is no judgement; just whatever you feel may help. So grab a pen & paper and start creating ❤️

📢 LET'S TALK RACIAL MICRO-AGGRESSIONS 📢

As a British multi-heritage BACP counsellor, I support clients from a range of ethnicities and backgrounds.Recently I have not only seen a significant rise in the level of micro-aggressions presented in my therapy room which I have also been subjected to. So today, if I may, I'd like to talk about it 😊

'A micro-aggression is defined as subtle, often unintentional, and sometimes even unconscious, expressions of bias & prejudice' 👇🏽

➡️ But I don't see colour when I see or think of you...
➡️ No, where are you really from?
➡️ I expected you to have an accent.....
➡️You are so articulate......
➡️You don't dress like a Muslim......
➡️I wish I had your tanned skin.......
➡️You don't act like a Black person.....
➡️Wow you went to university......
➡️But you have a white person's name......
➡️OMG I love your hair, can I touch it?
➡️Bet your house smells of curry.....
➡️ I visualised you differently.....
➡️Oh so you were actually born here......

These are just a handful of questions & comments that people from racialized communities can be subjected. So before we make an assumption or want to comment on the way that someone presents themselves in the world, let's think about how our comments could be received.....words hurt and can leave lifelong scars 😢 If you don't understand, ask and help make change ❤️

LET US ACCEPT ONE ANOTHER ❤️
As a therapist who has years of experience of supporting clients who are neurodivergent; I actively advocate those with autism this month and for the foreseeable. Being autistic can lead to feelings of loneliness, fear, invisibility, anger, shame and dismissal. It can be a scary place for those on the spectrum who are expected to fit within a 'neurotypical' world, without understanding how huge of an ask that is. Let's raise awareness & break down the stigmas surrounding autism by asking others to create more inclusivity rather than changing who a person is or how they present themselves... Allow all on the spectrum to feel seen, heard & accepted and most, importantly be their authentic selves 😊

HEY 2025 🩵🩷💚🧡💜
As the door firmly closes on 2024, I sit here with an immense feeling of pride and gratitude for the business I have built, the clients whom I have supported and for becoming an accredited BACP therapist 🎉 As we start this new year, I'm ready and poised to highlight my attitudes and gratitudes whenever and wherever they may show up in 2025....let's do this 😊

We can believe that we are undeserving of love perhaps due to past experiences, what we have been told or how we have been made to feel but remember that despite what you or others see as flaws.....YOU ARE LOVEABLE. There is no such thing as perfect and having flaws (emotional & physical) simply makes you human. So allow release from the shackles of your past and make way for the ❤️ that you deserve in the future one step and a time 😊

BACP ACCREDITED COUNSELLOR 🎉 🙂
Today I received news that I've been awarded my counselling accreditation status by the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy). After a lot of commitment and hard work, this means that my practice, Lime Counselling and my work as a mental health professional have been recognised for meeting the high standards set by the BACP. It also shows that my clients are fully supported by a highly competent, ethical and independent practitioner and for that, I couldn't be prouder 🥹
