Following the success of 'Beginning' at the Loft last September, director Viki Betts returns with David Eldridge’s second part of the trilogy, 'Middle'.

As the Guardian said in its review of the play, this is "a marital reckoning which is a confrontation with midlife itself". Amongst the drama there is wit woven through the dialogue. As the husband quips, "I don’t think they have conscious uncoupling in Essex. Unconscious coupling yes..."

At the height of the Great Depression, ruthless, sociopathic financier Gregor Antonescu’s business is dangerously close to collapse. In order to escape the wolves at his door, Gregor tracks down his estranged son Basil in the hopes of using his Greenwich Village apartment as a base to make a company-saving deal. Can this reunion help them reconcile? Or will this corrupt father, who has an inability to love, manipulate and use his only son as a pawn in one last power play?

A compelling story about ‘power corrupting absolutely’, highlighting the consequences of no moral compass and the willingness to sacrifice anything for success.

Rattigan’s play is as fresh, relevant and contemporary as the period in which he wrote it, as we witness all around us the shocking revelations and ultimate fall of those who misuse power.

After staging 'Beginning' last September, 'Middle’ is the second play in this marvellous trilogy by David Eldridge and this will be running at the Loft from September 23 - October 3.

Where Beginning was a couple taking steps towards their first commitment together, Middle captures the middle years of a marriage, full of reflection, familiarity and questioning. Is this what they wanted or expected from being together?

Is this the beginning of the end, or just the middle?

It is with deepest sorrow that we have received the news that Richard Moore died peacefully in Myton Hospice on Thursday. Sue was with him.

Richard’s contribution to the life of the Loft for more than half a century has been immeasurable, and a full tribute will appear soon.

The funeral will take place at 12pm on Thursday 10th September at Oakley Wood Crematorium (North Chapel), Bishops Tachbrook, CV33 9QP.

We send our love to Sue, who will be in our thoughts today and in the times ahead.

We are pleased to share that the re-roofing of the theatre is now complete!

This is just one part of our huge project this summer to secure the infrastructure of the theatre, improve the comfort of our audiences and volunteers, reduce our annual running costs and help the environment.

The cost of this project is dear, and in our 104-year history we have been funded only through our ticket sales, with no public funding from either local authorities or the Arts Council.
