Art at St Nicholas House Stunning art for everyone - A collection of local artists presenting their work in the beautiful surroundings of St Nicholas House

13/04/2026

With just over 9 weeks until the start of there are exciting things happening at Art @ St Nicholas House, with three new artists presenting their work as part of this LAYERS exhibition.

Joining and her paintings are:

Eric Klein Velderman - Eric transitions from print-based work to sculptural form depending on his artistic focus. Whether mixing rabbit skin glue with clay bole or combining copper leaf with sulphates, his practice investigates the chemical consequences of juxtaposing and layering materials. His work uses architectural forms and the natural world as a starting point for development.

Helen Dugdale - Creating both jewellery and metal vessels, Helen skillfully interlocks her materials in a variety of ways. Her work carries a quiet conceptual depth too, with a strong underlying influence drawn from the visual significance of old linen bindings used in the ancient process of mummification - a tightly bound image that has become a visual metaphor for the invisible bindings we have within us to protect ourselves, but also restrict and hold us back.

Katherine Taylor - Producing hand-built black stoneware vessels, Katherine’s process is equally about accumulation and revelation: she combines her interest in form, colour, and drawing, emphasising texture and narrative through layered techniques. She uses engobes, glazes, and mark-making, with vessels deeply influenced by the environments she engages with, evoking memories and a sense of place.

LAYERS - 20, 21 and 26 to 28 June & 3 to 5 July 2026
An exhibition of LAYERS that speaks to both a material reality and a way of seeing the world – a word that resonates deeply across all four artists in this show – three of whom are exhibiting for the first time at St Nicholas House.

Once again, we will be opening the big blue door of St Nicholas House (CV31 1BN) as part of Warwickshire Open Studios Summer Art Weeks, which features over 330 artists across 100 different venues.

Janette George - Painting
Taking inspiration from places she has visited, Janette's landscapes and seascapes are built through a layering of media: working initially with acrylic paint on a wet canvas, she lets the paint move and disperse before using oils to complete the painting, creating depth and levels of colour through constant blending and mixing.

It’s been a busy few weeks (more of that later!) but yesterday I set up for my three-month slot at the lovely Banbury Museum gift shop. There are so many wonderful things for sale throughout the shop so why not go along and see if anything takes your fancy! Perfect for picking up a range of beautifully made gifts…

Wow! Just look what you can create on one of Clare’s (Warwickshire Willow) workshops?!
